2008 Mini Clubman (wagon)

2008 will see the return of the Mini Clubman to Australia. The car which left Australian shores in 1978 will be back with the same name and same idea.

The Clubman, better referred to as a Mini Wagon, will use the new generation mini platform with an extended wheelbase.

So far, all details are sketchy. However Mini spokesman Alexander Corne has confirmed that the new car will go on sale in Europe before the end of the year, however there are currently no set dates or plans for the Clubman in Australia - only that, its definitely coming.

Mini Australia is expected to make an official announcement in two weeks time outlining plans for the Mini Clubman and its return in 2008. As far as target audience goes, Mini admits that the car is aimed at those who take life a little less seriously.

"It's a fun car for young people with active lifestyles," Corne says.

Speaking of hotted up Minis, Mini has confirmed a John Cooper Works (John Cooper Works is to Mini what AMG are to Mercedes) version of the latest Mini.

Power has been lifted using a new air intake and exhaust system which has pushed power to 141kW (previously at 121kW). You also get 18-inch alloy wheels with the JCW version. Even so, the new JCW version is not as powerful as the old which had a power output of 154kW.

Expect more details in the next few weeks, and expect to see the Mini Clubman in Australia in early 2008.
