FPV GT RSPEC: fastest ever Falcon launches

Ford Performance Vehicles has unleashed its quickest model yet: the FPV GT RSPEC Limited Edition Series.

Just 350 examples of the GT RSPEC special edition will be produced, with each one benefitting from retuned suspension, wider rear wheels and tyres and launch control that promise to make it faster off the line than any FPV before it.

The FPV GT RSPEC’s front suspension sports stiffer upper control arm bushes, stiffer upper strut mounts and retuned dampers, while the rear suspension scores higher spring rates, retuned dampers, a larger anti-roll bar and reinforced lower control arms.

Stiffer transmission mounts lead to reduced powertrain movement under load, improving ride quality.

FPV says the new 9-inch-wide rear wheels and 275/35 R19 Dunlop Sports Maxx tyres combine for improved traction at take-off and better cornering grip, while a revised toe setting on the rear-wheel alignment leads to greater turn-in response.

The launch control system – a first for FPV – ensures more consistent performance when accelerating from rest, reducing the amount of wheel slip for vehicles with either the automatic or manual transmission.

The system is automatically enabled when the vehicle is started and is designed to give drivers a smooth, consistent launch on typical road surfaces.

There are no changes under the bonnet of the FPV GT RSPEC, with the special edition muscle car inheriting the standard GT’s 335kW/570Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine.

The FPV GT RSPEC borrows some design cues from the 1969 Boss Mustang, highlighted by the famous C-stripe, and is differentiated from the standard GT by the unique accenting on the upper and lower grille surrounds, fog lamp bezels, mirror caps, high-performance spoiler, black-painted exhaust tips and ‘GT RSPEC’ rear badging.

The interior features leather seats with ‘GT’ embroidery and piano black dashboard plastics.

Half of the limited run will be produced in the Silhouette/Vixen (red on black) hero colour scheme, with the remainder made up of Winter White, Vixen and Kintetic (blue) with black accents.

Priced from $76,990 before on-road costs, the GT RSPEC limited edition is $5700 more expensive than the standard GT.

Along with the GT RSPEC sedan, FPV has also announced the availability of the special edition Pursuit Ute.

With production capped to just 75 units, the Pursuit scores the visual enhancements of the RSPEC but misses out on its mechanical tweaks.

Over the standard FPV GS Ute, the Pursuit sports the exclusive red and black paint scheme and bodywork and also adds a premium audio system and dual-zone climate control.

The Pursuit carries over the 315kW/545Nm 5.0-litre V8 from the GS.

The special edition FPV Pursuit Ute is priced from $57,990 before on-roads, making it $5000 dearer than the standard GS Ute.

The announcements from FPV come just days after homegrown rival HSV announced a raft to upgrades to its product portfolio, including the reintroduction of the ClubSport and Maloo entry-level models.
