This is simply an example of BMW allocating its corporate resources where it thinks is best for achieving business targets and margins. BMW is a successful stand alone company and you would expect them to be very cautious with new product lines, especially if they want to be at the frontier of reducing carbon emissions, building efficient internal combustion engines and alternative engines. The CS is a beautiful car and would trump all other 4-door coupes if it made production. Along with the cancelled M1 concept super car and the cancelled E92 M3 CSL, which are all within the same category, we might expect to see more cautious business decisions in future, and I reckon more weird and less expensive models (X1, X6, Progressive Activity Sedan). Note that the CS was rumoured to be over $400,000; not exactly a volume series.

It's a bad thing they scrapped an otherwise sexy, beautiful car in the advent of 4-door 'coupes' like the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera. This BMW would have certainly killed the CLS. I'm actually surprised BMW are experiencing financial crisis. In that case, what more could the other German brands suffer from?

Whilst disappointed, it really isn't surprising. With financial crisis, car sells tumbling down, and emission tax and regulation on the rise, this really isn't the right car for the time being.

I agree the BMW X6 is pointless and stupid, but why do people think that the Mini Crossman is a bad idea? There are probably millions of mothers all around the world that will clime out of Rav4s, CRVs, Foresters, Tiguans and even X3s to get a cute Mini SUV. They will sell really well provided they have four normal doors and I think its a pretty sound decision. It's just like when the Range Rover Sport came out, everybody thought it was ugly and stupid and wouldn't sell at all - now, three years later, it's Land Rovers best selling model in most markets of the world. Could the Crossman take over Cooper sales? Maybe. Back on the topic, I really fancied buying a CS. I think its fantastic. It has so much presence. You know when you see a Maserati or an Aston Martin or a Ferrari, Lamborghini whatever at the lights and its just so special. I think this car is like that and I think its a real shame BMW won't be making it, especially considering that BMW probably would have found a way to make a silent, powerful, fast diesel engine that gets 100MPG or something by 2011. Come on BMW. Its time you made really special cars again. This could have been the beginning.

bmw losing the plot.

‘The focus for the brand’s future will now instead draw on new technologies including the top priority EfficientDynamics and Project i.’

What the hell is the stupid Crossman?
They should at build these at the expense of that.

I'm very dissapointed. I thought that was a fantastic car but I suppose nows just not the time. Maybe in five years they'll bring it back with a hydrogen engine when the financial crisis a over.
