Porsche 918 Spyder: Martini Racing livery unveiled, interior spied

Porsche has released new images of the Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid supercar out testing in a new Martini Racing livery, while our spy photographers have snapped the car's interior for the first time.

The distinctive Martini Racing livery on the Porsche 918 Spyder is a nod to the brand’s racing history, namely its 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours-winning Porsche 917.

The recurring use of Martini Racing designs comes as part of an exclusive partnership between the Italian brand and Porsche to make the liveries only available to the new supercar.

The interior images show some similarities to the original concept car, first seen at the 2010 Geneva motor show, including the large center console with LCD screen - likely to be a touch screen. There are a collection of switches and controls visible below the screen and a small red gear indicator display showing the currently selected gear.

While most of the dash is covered, the use of carbonfibre trim can be spotted beneath the gauges in front of the driver. The tachometer clearly reaches 10,000rpm while the car’s redline appears to start at a lofty 9000rpm - the word 'charge' can also be seen. The large grey dash-mounted screen is a temporary item used for diagnostic readouts during testing.

The 918’s steering wheel with aluminium paddle-shifters is also visible along with the heavily motorport-inspired carbonfibre and aluminium seats highlighted by a Porsche logo and '918 Spyder'.

Continuing with Porsche’s use of vintage-themed liveries, the exterior spy shots show the grey 918 being tested with 'Martini Hippie' inspired paintwork.

The Porsche 918 is jam-packed with technology, from its carbonfibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque and individual rear-wheel steering, to its 574kW-plus mixed-power propulsion set-up that includes a V8 engine, hybrid module and electric motor. Less complex to understand are the stats; 0-100km/h in less than 3.0 seconds, a top speed in excess of 325km/h and fuel and CO2 emissions figures of 3.0L/100km and 70g/km respectively.

Production of the car is due to start in September 2013, followed by the first deliveries later that year.
