Video: GM Corvette’s LS9 engine being built

October 31, 2008 by Karl Peskett

Here’s a good Friday video for you: The Corvette ZR-1’s engine being put together.

You’ll soon be able to buy this insane donk without owning a Corvette, too. As it does 3.3-seconds 0-100km/h, and a low 11-second quarter mile (in the ‘Vette), we’re sure it won’t be long before a few of these beasts will be shoehorned into various project cars.

LOL “What we’re doing here is a leak-test”, other guy says with hesitation “it passed”.

Make the most of it GM, you won’t be building those for much longer…

  2. Pete says:

    where do I sign?

  3. Ra says:

I heard these engines run on tobacco spit and beard hair!

  4. smokin'R32 says:

Say what you will but the thing pulls doe 0-100km/h in 3.3seconds and just set a 7:22.4 Nurburgring lap time. I don’t see any German or Japanese rivals doing the same at that price.

  5. Richo says:

The anti-GM mob can’t help themselfs can they…

  6. Joe says:

One of these dropped into a VZ Monaro, would be beastly.

  7. Reckless1 says:

Although the commentator says you can buy the engine at gmperformanceparts.com, the engine is not listed on there.

The LS7 can be had for a rrp of $US17495, so it’s a safe bet the LS9 would be more like double that price.

Double it again and add import duty, GST, and freight to Aus, and I can’t see one being used in a project car in the near future….

Nice donk, though. Would fit into the Jackaroo quite nicely, and would then go up Blue Rag Range track faster than before :)

  8. Jared J says:

Reckless1, I read that the LS9 crate motor will only go on sale late next year. GM’s just made the announcement to get everyone all hot, sweaty and hyped up for it :)

It would make a kickarse swap for my beat-up Corona wagon…

  9. JEYKL & HYDE says:

anyone cashed up enough to drop one of these, with the w427 box, into a ve..could be a REAL interesting article

  10. Tom says:

This is the motor the W427 should have had.
