Nissan Almera: city-sized sedan priced from $16,990
The city-sized Nissan Almera sedan is now on sale in Australia, giving buyers at the budget end of the market another entry-level option from the popular Japanese manufacturer.
The Nissan Micra-based Almera starts at $16,990 before on-road costs for the five-speed manual base model ST. A four-speed automatic version of the ST is available from $18,990, while the auto-only top-spec Almera Ti variant costs $20,990.
The Nissan Almera is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 75kW of power and 139Nm of torque – 3Nm more than it produces in the Micra.
The manual variant uses 6.3 litres of fuel per 100km on the combined cycle while the autos are marginally thirstier at 6.7L/100km.
All models boast a strong standard safety package that includes six airbags (dual front, side and curtains), electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (ABS), brake assist (BA) and electronic brakeforce distributor (EBD).
The entry-level Nissan Almera ST features 15-inch steel wheels, chrome grille, trip computer, manual air conditioning, tilt-adjustable steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, and a four-speaker audio system with an auxiliary jack.
For an extra $2000, the Almera Ti adds 15-inch alloy wheels, front foglights, rear spoiler, rear parking sensors, smart key with push-button start, variable intermittent windscreen wipers, automatic climate control, rear centre armrest with integrated cup holders and adjustable rear headrests.
The Almera is available in six colours: Brilliant Silver, Burning Red, Deep Sapphire, Ebony, Titanium, and White Diamond.
The Nissan Almera will go head to head with the cheapest sedans in the country, including the Ford Fiesta ($18,990-$21,490), Holden Barina ($16,490-$18,490), Honda City ($18,990-$23,490), Hyundai Accent ($16,990-$22,990) and the Kia Rio ($19,690-$21,690).
