Good idea, waste of a car to put it on. I reckon they should put their time into making a street legal R32 version. That would be a car to talk about.

Drove this car in NZ on demonstration. Liked it a lot - goes well, looks good (without being too boy racerish) and the DSG and paddle shift are superb. Have ordered one and will take delivery in June, cannot wait - but will have to. Will post here how it goes. Fuel consumption whilst test driving overnight was @ 7.7 per 100KM and I was not trying to go slow. Doors not as solid as my Mark 1V and they could (IMO) have done more with the dash. Likely to be updated in 2008 but we won't get it until 2009/2010 and likely to be more styling polish and equipment upgrade, bluetooth, ipod etc than a complete change - Jules

I think the price of the Golf GT will dictate whether it is a sales success in Australia or not.

Priced in the mid $30k will see it potentially rob sales from the GTI - or - affect its sales because people would still be prepared to pay a little extra for the GTI.

Priced in the low $30k would see it come up against its little brother, the Polo GTI.

Quite a dilemma for VW Australia.

Yeah, always had a fair bit of respect for VW. Quite innovative for a European car brand especially with the DSG gearbox which is being followed by Audi and Mitsubishi for the Evo X clutchless manual model. Always been a fan of the Golf and Polo range. For front wheel drive cars they have quite impressive handling apart from the odd bit of torque steer in the higher powered models which can be aided with a few sophisticated parts.

Yeah, it is good to see brands like veedub making an effort to provide many different, yet good sport versions of their vehicles.

So many brands perhap to focus on the majority, rather than provide sport models

Absolutely!

I think it will be one hell of a car! Volkswagen have done quite well with the Golf GTi and R32 so far, I think this will only increase their popularity in the market.
