Mitsubishi ASX: updated 2013 SUV starts US production

Mitsubishi has started production of the 2013 Mitsubishi ASX at its North American plant in Normal, Illinois, giving us our first look at the updated SUV that goes on sale in Australia next month.

The refreshed Mitsubishi ASX compact crossover, or Outlander Sport as it’s called in the US, comes two years after the small SUV was launched in Australia in 2010.

Mitsubishi Australia's corporate communications manager, Caitlin Beale, confirmed to CarAdvice in March that changes to the updated ASX would be mostly cosmetic as seen in these images, with no changes to engine and transmission line-ups expected.

While the Illinois plant has become a strategic global production and export hub for Mitsubishi, producing cars for markets in North America, Russia, Central and South America, and the Middle East, Australian stock will continue to be sourced from Japan.

The updated ASX was first shown to the US public back in April at the New York motor show.

The updated Mitsubishi ASX will reach Australian showrooms in August, followed by the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander due either late this year or early in 2013.
