Mitsubishi has started production of the 2013 Mitsubishi ASX at its North American plant in Normal, Illinois, giving us our first look at the updated SUV that goes on sale in Australia next month.

The refreshed Mitsubishi ASX compact crossover, or Outlander Sport as it’s called in the US, comes two years after the small SUV was launched in Australia in 2010.

Mitsubishi Australia’s corporate communications manager, Caitlin Beale, confirmed to CarAdvice in March that changes to the updated ASX would be mostly cosmetic as seen in these images, with no changes to engine and transmission line-ups expected.

While the Illinois plant has become a strategic global production and export hub for Mitsubishi, producing cars for markets in North America, Russia, Central and South America, and the Middle East, Australian stock will continue to be sourced from Japan.

The updated ASX was first shown to the US public back in April at the New York motor show.

The updated Mitsubishi ASX will reach Australian showrooms in August, followed by the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander due either late this year or early in 2013.

This looks better than the current model….just

Still no diesel auto. Still won’t sell well because of it.
Still, looks better then the current one.

I can’t believe they haven’t done this yet. They said at launch they’d have it within 18 months. Every time they release an update there are a pile of comments on the fact. It’s not like they’re currently selling like hotcakes. Clear loss of sales!

It does seem a massive oversight. But then Australia is a small market and diesel manuals are huge in Europe. Hopefully they will being it out soon though!

    • Purba

The Diesel is actually not necessary. The petrol engine consumes bugger all anyway.

  • Unhostile

    Looks much better looking.

    the changes are so dramatic

Diesel auto and turbo petrol are much-needed additions to the lineup.

Spot on……the diesel is such a great motor….is a let down that they haven’t sorted it out. Also screaming out for a Ralliart version.

    ASX for… Australian Stock Exchange???

    • Noddy of Toyland

They want to cash in on sales.

A stupid car for stupid people.

Why would you pay a extra $5000 over a Lancer hatch to get essentially the same car, but on stilts with half the boot space, worse handling/performance/economy and horribly ugly styling?
