A cheeky first teaser of what could be the new Fiat 500T model appears in the Italian brand’s latest US television commercial along with the rest of the Fiat 500 range destined for North America.

Long rumoured in the US to slot between the naturally aspirated 74kW Fiat 500 Sport and turbocharged 120kW Fiat 500 Abarth, the dark grey Fiat 500T (for Turbo) is spotted rounding a corner in what looks like Abarth body work and Sport wheels as various 500s make their way from Italy to America via land and sea.

Reports suggest a 500T could hit the balance between price and performance coming in cheaper than the top-spec Abarth and with the same turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine, albeit slightly de-tuned to match the 100kW produced by the European-specification Abarth.

Giving more weight to the idea, a release about the ad from the Chrysler Group refers to the commercial as featuring the “Fiat 500 product portfolio”.

Chrysler says it was shot in both Italy and New York and includes scenes from Amalfi and Sorrento, the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges and Madison Square Park.

Fiat Australia’s range is currently made up of four models: the 85kW/145Nm 875cc turbocharged two-cylinder Fiat 500 TwinAir hatch and 500C TwinAir convertible, and the 118kW/230Nm Abarth 500 Esseesse in both hardtop and convertible body styles.

i don’t get who would buy this.. makes sense in densly populate cities, but i dont get this making it in the us market.

  • Joe

Hmmmmm…..America does, apparently, not have densely populated cities……..thanks for informing me……

I have just driven a 500 across Europe for 4 weeks……amazing car, comfortable, fuel efficient, very quiet, 150+kmh on the Autostradas, magic through the mountains, fabulous in the cities. If the Americans don’t get it, and it does not sell, it’s their bad luck. Great car.

Aren’t 500s for the US market built in Toluca Mexico?  Another fact is that the US spec 500 has a number of improvements (rear suspension, 6 speed auto) yet to be seen on the Euro spec 500.

    • Werewr

Euro spec models would have better suspension tune and europeans know how to drive manuals & won’t buy autos even if offered.

      • Richard

You really believe that?  The changes made for the North American market 500 will filter through to the EU 500 and its derivatives.
FIAT offers the hideous automated manual on EU 500s.

I love the part where it says “Fictionalisation. Do not attempt” when the car plunges into the sea.

      Ahahahaha

I wish I could buy a 500 in Oz with a 4 cylinder engine, 6 speed auto and for no more than $25k

The current underdone and overpriced car is a poor alternative to a MINI… A shame really… Speced and priced right this should be a blockbuster.

Awesome. Fiat are now making amphibious cars!
