Honda Civic Type-R enters ARC

October 28, 2008 by Matt Brogan

Honda Australia has entered the final round of the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) for 2008, the Coffs Coast Rally, with a view to competing in the full ARC calendar next season.

To be held on November 14 – 16, the event will see British Rally Champion Guy Wilks drive for Honda, with Phil Pugh as co-driver in the JAS Motorsport built Group R Civic Type R. Once again, Mugen and JAS will assist Honda in the final ARC round.

Honda first competed in the Rally of Canberra, placing 5th overall on Day One but was forced out on Day Two due to technical difficulties.

Honda Australia’s Managing Director, Mr Yasuhide Mizuno said although rallying provided significant challenges for the two-wheel drive Type R against a field dominated by four-wheel drives, Honda was looking forward to finishing off a great year of racing.

“Honda generated a lot of interest with the Civic Type R at the Rally of Canberra as we were competing against the four-wheel drive turbos with our two-wheel drive production car. If everything works out in Coffs Harbour, we would like to continue in the 2009 season and prove that Honda is serious about racing in Australia.”

The Coffs Coast Rally will commence with a ceremonial start in the city centre on Friday 14 November. The stages will take place on 15 and 16 November, with the main service park at BCU Stadium. Further details can be found at www.rally.com.au

Is mazda going to run the 3 in any more rounds? This is excellent. Great to see cars that people can actually buy (yes I’m talking about YOU toyota) competing.

    Is it still FWD?

  4. The Original Tom says:

If you read the quotes it says that it is a 2-wheel drive production car.

The pics also clear show that the front wheels are driven.

  5. Fasthonda says:

Honda Civic Type R cars have also entered the inaugural 2wd section of the(I)(Intercontinental (R)ally (C)hallenge in Europe. That particular rally also has cars that we see on the road daily.
I follow F1, but some people tend to relate more to a race car if it still looks like the road car!
