The official McLaren MP4-12C Spider launch video has been released showing the car, in both roof up and roof down form, letting loose at the track and through the mountains in Southern Spain.

The film shows the Volcano Red 12C’s retractable hardtop in action, going from solid roof to open-air in 17 seconds while on the move – the McLaren’s roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30km/h.

The convertible McLaren delivers a 0-100km/h time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 329km/h thanks to its 460kW/600Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 powerplant.

The $543,900 Spider will come at a $50,000 premium over the McLaren MP4-12C hardtop when it lands in Australia early next year.

Orders for the Spider can be made now through McLaren’s Australian distributor Trivett.

Half a million bucks and it’s still got that goofy grin front end. Strangely un – McLaren.

At least it doesn’t have Jeremey Clarkson in the video telling you “WOAH –  it’s SO FAST!?!

title says “soft-top”.. i thought they made a 3rd version of the MP4-12C!

Another super car that looks the same as all the others.
Such a predictable & boring design that’s been done to death.
Some people complain about the 911 design but at least it looks different & unique.
Why on earth would someone buy this Mclaren over a Ferrari or Lambo?

      You are obviously joking….!

  • diesel

a huge improvement on the looks compared to the boring coupe!
