Opel Adam: city car revealed in photo shoot

The Opel Adam has been spied during a promotional photo shoot in Spain, revealing the all-new city car without camouflage for the first time.

Sporting a youthful design, the cute and quirky Adam will offer a high-style alternative to existing city cars like the Fiat 500 and the Volkswagen Up! when it goes on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2013.

A large smiling grille with chrome highlights and fog lights directly below the headlights give the Adam an unmistakable face, while pumped rear guards and Citroen DS3-style floating C-pillars inject more character to the back-end.

The four cars pictured are all finished in unique two-tone paint combinations, with different coloured roofs available across each of the three trim levels – Jam, Slam and Glam – which Opel calls ‘moods’.

The three-door, four-seat Adam is 3.7m long, making it about 150mm longer than the Up! and the 500. A range of Euro VI-compliant three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will ensure the Adam is among the most fuel efficient city cars on the market.

The Adam will go head to head with the Up! in Europe, with prices set to start below 10,000 euros ($12,100).

The Adam is among the list of cars that Opel Australia is investigating for our market, but will not be part of the initial launch range that comprises the Corsa, Astra and Insignia, which lands in local showrooms in September.

The Opel Adam will makes its official world premiere at the 2012 Paris motor show in September.
