The latest industry VFACTS figures released today have revealed the biggest monthly sales result for the Australian new-car market.

As always, CarAdvice has written a detailed story on the winning and losing vehicles and brands for the month, which you can read here.

And this month we’ve created an infographic that incorporates the most fascinating facts and figures in a handy, at-a-glance format…

  • Brandon

    Poor Commodore.

    • Hung Low

It still is the top selling car in its category, so really it has more to do with the large car category than the Commodore itself!

    • twincharger

      Grandon
The new Commodore just around the corner. We will see what you have got to say then Mr smarty .When Commodore goes top again like it did for 16 years.

      • quadcharger

The new Mazda 3, Corolla and Golf are just around the corner too.

        • twincharger

Mazda 3 and Corolla are good cars, but they are (a dime a dozen). So many of thoes type of cars for sale at the moment.Given that both of thoes mentioned models are reliable, they will have reasonable resale down the track.
rolf was heavily discounted last month,,$21,990 drive away plus free onroads.

          • Phil

Why would Crummer sales go back up just because they released a new model? Sales have continued declining with each VE update. Plus what about when the FG was released for the Falcoone? The decline in Falcoone sales continued as if the new model never happened.

$21,990 is the normal price for Rolf. All they did was offer free on road costs. That is not “heavily discounted”.
If you want “heavily discounted”, pop into your Holden dealer and ask for prices on Crummer – not only will you get free on roads, you’ll get $10K off on top of that.

          • twincharger

            Phildo
The rolfs dream run is allmost over .Now outclassed by the Hyundai i30 and others like Focus,Meganne, BMW 1 Series,Astra.
Falcon fightback started last month. All you Vw fanboys make a living out talking down the Commodore,as all Australian haters do.When you weigh it up the rolf will drop a Transmission and another 5 warranty items in the first 50,000 kms.
$21,990 is tooo much for a rolf.

          • Triplecharger

TWINCHARGER , falcoon is dead and the crummer is dying  , astra what the ? we talking the car thats not even here yet .

Iam still waiting for my golf to explode , barry/nemo/fung predicted my time bomb would explode , alas it just keeps powering on , faultless like the 2700 sold in june .

          • Daniel

I don’t see your point? There are way more Commodores on the used market than there are Corollas or 3s and Holden never stop heavily discounting them. Commodores also have scary resale prices, they lose so much value so quickly, so why would you buy one over a car that does have good resale and will be reliable?

          • twincharger

For starters Commodore has no issue with reliability.
Commodore is in the large sedan catagory, competing against Aurion+Falcon.
Corollas and 3″ belong to a catagory with over 30  vechless to selection from.
I dont see your point Daniel.

          • Legnab

Twintrumpet  i heard a good story today from a rep , just ditched 20+ crummerdores unreliable, too many electrical issues, too expensive gas guzzlers , guess what switching to i35 , good not stop laffing .

          • Sydlocal

            ….and Commodores aren’t “a dime a dozen”?

          • twincharger

Totally agree Commodores are not “a dime a dozen”..that status goes to all the small hatchbacks in the market..like rolf

      • Triplecharger

Dont bank on it its old tech , new smallies are killing the croomerdore .

        • twincharger

There was once a movie called the man with no name.
The next movie is The Man With LOTS Of Names.Starring bangel, triplecharger, legnad, spellbound, ram, quadcharger, phildo, spangel.
Bit touchy when we talk about Veedud reliability arnt we bangel, legnad, spellbound, ram, quadcharger, triplecharger.
Jeeezz what ever your called today just one name please,im getting a headache.

          • Legnab

Thats funny coming from twincharger/nemo/barry/hung/ the boy who still drives his mums VK crummerdore .

      • Schah7

You poor pathetic ……?. Gee please dont cry all over your Mark Skaife poster when this wont & doesn’t happen. No new “anything” is gonna save Commodore’s arse now.!
Time to grow up, go find youself a good woman. I’m sure you’ll find far less “false promises” in her than you will with your beloved “HoldenCommodore”

        • twincharger

Happily married with family, long live Mark Skaife, proud owner of Holden Crewman.

  • gt86.com.au

Any way to shrink wash the commoder, but not into a korean Daewoo?

    • Legnab

Spot on gt86 they are just too big and fat and are sedans , no one is interested anymore , not even the fleet buyers .

Got to laugh when the feds tip millions into the money pit to prop em up and  they keep dropping in the charts , dont think a new front on the crummer will boost sales.

      • Captain Nemo

Wow Bungle yet another username to add to your long list of alias.
Liz Taylor would be proud of you bud.

  • filippo

So the Mazda 3 is a small car, but the Toyota Corolla is a medium car? Riiiight…

    • Nell

I think they meant to write Camry.

    • Zandit75

Good pickup, how the F**k does that work?? Maybe Camry was supposed to be in there?

  • Andrew M

Sure the Commodore dropped to 8th spot, but correct me if Im wrong, but the commodore also sold more than last month which saw it come in 3rd was it???
A lot more cars suddenly sold over 3000 units than usual, interesting to see if it carries through till next month

Also CA, if you are going to try and make pretty graphs, why dont you scale them to represent differences.
I just dont get what you are trying to show. For eg Toyotas line ahould be double the length of anyone else

    • Sydlocal

I don’t think it would carry on next month Andrew. Remember this was the last month of all the “End of Financial Year Sales”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=737660467 Kit Ho

Surprised to see Jeep and Lotus that high up in the % growth

Small SUVs is a licence to print money for manufacturers, that segment only going to get bigger

    • Igomi Watabi

Building on a low base guarantees high percentage increase

  • Ima_Hogg

Its the time to say goodbye to large cars. Farewell and good ridance to the Commodore

    • Dave S

      Why?

There are plenty of Brands that would love 2700+ sales in one month (plus ute sales). Let’s not forget, even your base model commodore sells for more money than anything else in the top 10.

All these sales tell us is: the the market is price sensitive. The Hilux sales show us that Toyota was one of the first to recover from the Thailand floods.

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au Jez Spinks

Yep, good spot, filippo – that medium car segment leader should be Camry not Corolla. We’ll get that fixed up. Andrew M – the infograph is a way of presenting interesting data in an easier-to-digest format, and to pick out some factual highlights. But all feedback, positive or negative, will be taken on board for future graphs.

  • DAVIDZ

Good graph, like it, error/camry aside

Is it possible to show the top 50 vehicles, not just top 10

    thanks

    • Gan Tan

Agree for example Jez where is the sx4 sales-wise?

  • BK

everybody here say bye bye to the commodore

  • Exch

Why are people comparing a Commodore to the Mazda 3?

    Totally different categories

btw i saw a white Toyota 86 last week and it looked awesome, seriously very original design..

    • Kejovi

saw one at the dealership with condensation in both rear tail lights, but i do like the white.

  • Simon Dale

The Commodore is going down the same path as the Falcon but at a later date.
