I usually change oil,air filter..etc..myself (I'm not a mechanic,I think everyone can do this easily) between the major service.As I mentioned earlier, with Subaru you have to have the car serviced every 6 months (regardless of kms)by either them or a logbook authorised service workshop and that's quite expensive even if you pay less at authorised service workshops. Also if you know a good mechanic, why should you pay double the amount for servicing by Subaru (and probably less experienced mechanics). I usually pay between $120 and $140 for my services on my MY05 2.5i Liberty. The only thing I don't like that their interval service is too short (only 6mnths) and the cost is huge too. I recently wanted to buy an Impreza and was told that each service would cost around $280-$300,that's around $550-$600 a year, twice the cost of my i30, so sorry subaru...your maintainance cost is just way too expensive.
