Opel Adam ‘moods’ to be called Jam, Glam and Slam

The all-new Opel Adam city car will break from the conventional model hierarchy system when it is launched at the 2012 Paris motor show in September.

Due to go on sale across Europe in early 2013, Opel says the Adam will initially be available in three distinct "moods" – Jam, Glam and Slam – in a strategy designed to encourage creativity and customisation from buyers to increase each vehicle’s individuality.

“It can dress up in many ways using colours, accessories and lots of clever design tricks,” Opel says. “Its driver can just give it his or her own style.

“We will propose three ‘moods’ to start with: one will be rather funky, the other rather elegant, and the third one rather sporty.”

Opel has also confirmed the car’s ‘Adam’ badge – the name pays tribute to the company’s founder, Adam Opel – will appear on the C-pillar rather than on the tailgate like a conventional hatchback.

The three-door, four-seat Opel Adam will compete directly with the slightly smaller Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Up! at the budget end of the market.

A range of new three- and four-cylinder Euro-VI-compliant engines promises to make the Adam one of the most efficient vehicles in the city-car segment.

The Adam is expected to start below 10,000 euros ($12,500), mirroring the Up, which starts from 9850 euros ($12,300) in Germany.

More details will be revealed at the unveiling of the Opel Adam in Paris on September 30.

Opel Australia launches locally in September with three models: Corsa, Astra and Insignia. The local division has made no announcement about plans to introduce the Adam at this stage.
