Team Vodaphone, thats exactly what market capitalisation means. I’m not professing to be an expert in the share market but I know the basics, unlike yourself.

Just looking at their share history, haha in 2000 GM’s value peaked at 53 billion. This week, 3.6 billion.

Ford was up at 96 billion in Jan of 1999. This week, 5.1 billion.

Yet you’re telling me that Toyota is less competitive? That’s fine, you’re entitled to your unsubstantiated opinion.

I’m only stating the facts.

Regarding formula one, well at least Toyota is competing?

I guess GM and Ford have bigger priorities to focus on, such as staying in business. Though the outlook isn’t great… 2 of Fords directors resigned from their board only yesterday.

I put in those share statistics to correct some of the spew that emanated from Team Vodafone above.

I actually agree that Toyota is making bland cars these days; I can say that if I was in the market for a new car then there’s nothing in the Toyota line up that I would consider. I would love for them to be making celica gt4’s, supras, mr2’s, soarers etc, even some of the sporty levin/trueno corolla models. However, they are going to be filling this void soon enough.

Falcodore you’re right, it is about the product, and Toyota have products that appeal to the masses. You can criticise them for that, but I don’t think they care. Their strategy has brought them consistent profits and sales growth, which is more that can be said for certain other manufacturers.

Yet another Boring old slush box from the same old Boring Car manufacturer. TOYOTA. So they gave it a face lift and added even more plastic in its interior, WOW step back. LOL

RoFlmaTiC, it doesn’t matter if Toyota is Worth more than 100 x GM, + FORD + VW (vw is currently the third biggest car manufacturer behind GM). IT will ALWAYS be a BORING A55, SH*tty car manufacturer that develops nothing but, pure FUGLY, boxes with 4 Wheels.

Now 2 Hybrid cars that are worth buying are the: (GOOGLE THESE 2 CARS)

CHEVROLET TAHOE HYBRID (6.0L V8 hyrbid) just to annoy Environmentalist by saying ur driving a HYBRID lol.

and FISKER HYBRID Cause it at least looks good while it saves the World, and im pretty sure its faster than this Piece of SH*t toyota thats shown above.

now if Environmentalist are really keen on saving the world and reducing emissions, then they might seriously consider buying a Scooter or a Motorbike. Because a 125 cc Motorbike produces Half as much emmisions as a Prius & spends half as much petrol. Not to mention most importantly they are quicker than a Prius too.

Now if u(OR Environmentalist) want a Bike that is Almost EXACTly as economical as a Prius, First it will cost less than half as much, still use 4.4L/100KM, & finally and most importantly get from 0 – 100KM, in 3.3 sec (or under 3.5 sec) & a top speed of over 280KM. (look for for 600cc, & 650 cc bikes)

LOL Now theirs something worth saving the world for, not to mention u can actually have fun doing it (at 280KM) LMAO.

OR then their is those diesel’s. & even this very site showed that diesel are more economical, & provide Less c02 then Hybrids

GM: 566 million shares at $6.40 = $3.62 billion USD market capitalisation.

Ford: 2.66 billion shares at $2.27 = $5.13 billion USD market capitalisation.

Toyota: 1.57 billion shares at $67.18 = $105.5 billion USD market capitilisation.

This means that Toyota is worth slightly more than 12 times Ford and GM combined.

Ouch.

Doesn’t the Volt have a fantasy battery system?? I.E Based on a battery, thats not really available for practical mass production? Also, isn’t the range on the Volt only 145km?? Which means i wouldn’t be able to travel from home to work, and visit the shops all on a single recharge!! Pure battery power is impractically for Australian distances… Who knows how well the battery will work under Australian temperatures!!

Joober, at the moment (and a risk of being mderated right of the net) all you are going to hear from the media about Ford Aust is job losses and Market downturn and everything bad that can be printed.
Notice that when GM said they’d lay of 1500 next year, it was a news flash and it dissapeared. Ford are making their decissions in stages as they figure out who they need and who they don’t, so it will always be frontline. But no there are NO fresh ones today, and the ones mentioned over the last week are all by the end of NEXT YEAR! I don’t know but there a saying about truth and a good story??? Something about not standing in the way. At the end of the day I would expect around 2000 to be shed by 2010. Sad but needed.

Danman, agree, you would be more confident in buying shares (obviously to look to getting a profit or growth) in Toyota than GM or Ford, hence the situation they are all in.

I believe Toyota know the game better than Ford or GM during this era and with a no frills / disciplined strategic management which seems to be doing their job really well will help them going on.

Speaking of which perhaps a bit off the topic, I heard that Ford a planning to cut more jobs again from the news…
