2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid official leaked images
October 17, 2008 by George Skentzos
Update: These images have been confirmed as genuine by Jon F. Thompson, Editor of Toyota’s Open Road blog.
Alleged official images of the new 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid have been leaked onto the web, clearly showing its new appearance as well as interior.
Whilst in the past these type of images have been defunct as works of talented amateur designers, the subtle flaws in these particular images suggest they may be the real deal.
Their quality and perspective indicates these images were likely taken from a composite video showcasing the new model, presumably never intended for public viewing – not anytime soon at least.
Its appearance is far less ‘futuristic’ than the previous Prius, boasting a far more conventional design assimilating with the rest of Toyota’s fleet.
The official unveiling of the new 2010 Toyota Prius is scheduled to take place at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009.
Some have been quick to point out that the headlights don’t seem to match, however that could just be the perspective. What are your opinions? Real or fake?

Hell, that’s far less interesting to look at than the much lower-priced new Honda Insight, which will be on the market sooner. Is Toyota’s relentless conservatism eventually going to kill them?
This is clearly fake, look at the first and second pictures, the headlights are obviously different, i wish everyone would stop re posting it.
Can’t see Toyota putting these 17 inch Aurion wheels on this thing
Wrong Tom. Same headlights from different angle, compounded by camera lenses.
Pablo, test mules have been spotted with identical wheels.
Still looks like a matchbox toy, small wheels on a slab-sided lump of metal and plastic.
Wrong Captain Mainwaring, the headlights in the first picture clearly extend right up on the front fender, in the second picture it does not.
Camera lense trick possibly, bad photoshop more likely. Look how rough it looks around the foglight surround.
IMO, I think it looks better than the current prius. Headlights look the same to me – just distorted by the lens (some wide angle bubble look if you get what I mean).
What I don’t get is this – in other countries the prius comes with BIGGER WHEELS and looks much better than the one we have here. Saw a prius the other day with custom wheels – i know, its silly, but it did look much better than the std.
It looks like a cross between a Corolla and a Prius.
It’s Yawntacular! And I’m guessing and I hoping a fake!
I think they are real.
1st off who the hell would fake a prius? i think you could fake other models out there that are nice.
2nd off its a prius.
and 3rd its just a prius.
Looks real to me. Look on the second pic were the join in the bumper meets the headlight. There is still a fair bit of headlight towards the cabin of the join, just like the first pic. Also if you look at the top of the headlight in the second pic, you can see where the bonnet has been shaped for the inner point on the headlight.
What really surprises me is that there is a chat room and forum for this car!!!!
Surely they would not have much to say??
“Hi Mike, How many km’s to the litre did you get this week??”
…
Sorry, can’t picture it!!!
Also looks so boring, but i think it will still sell as it has been, maybe more.
Whats with the SOS button?
Of ourse it looks boring.its from the kings of boring ……Toyota.
It never ceases to amaze me that Toyota can come up with a design that looks like nothing else on the road and some people just dismiss it as boring. I’m not saying that its a work of art, but if it was packing 200kW and AWD the same people would probably call it a “weapon”, but some people are just sheep too.
I am in agreement with Tom, the headlights look different to me, and even for leaked official images, these look of very low quality.
Can someone please tell my why the Prius has to be ugly and out of proportion?
Those photos are fake. Surely the new Prius is not that boring. If I had bought a car like that I would have to wear a Star Trek uniform to get peoples attention.
look at the toyota badge in the second photo…
its fake! its looks like a sticker…
i think the first photo looks great, and don’t beat me down for it – but i quite like it… lol.
Thefront wheels in that first photo look bigger than the rear, and I don’t think it’s just the perspective. I’m guessing it’s a fake.
fake i say, the light doesn’t match in first and second photo. the first one, the light stretches much further back, and the camera perspective cannot change the shape of sheet metal made to go around the headlight
Looks fake, as what tom suggested the headlights are stretched in the first pic and not so in the second, and shonky pics like those usually means a blur up of photochopping.
Anyways looks like a corolla front end and rest prius…
Oh and as for the Toyota Logo on the front of the car. It is all filled in. It doesn’t mean its fake. Have you seen Mercs logos on their new cars as of recent? they are exactly the same, all filled in and nice and glossy. Toyota might be doing the same thing here.
Why is everyone so hung up on the headlights? If anything it proves these images are genuine because why on Earth would someone design an asymmetrical fake Prius?
My guess is they are screenshots from a video, and the video most likely ‘morphs’ the previous Prius into the current Prius. Something along the lines of the BMW ‘Evolution’ ads.
Agreed about the lights Tom. If Captain Mainwaring took his bifocles off he’d see it.Look again and the ends of the top pictures lights look like they have indicators. On the bottom picture the upper of the two lower lights appears to be an indicator light. What else would the second light be if the lowest light was a foggy.
Its a fake but not a bad representation.
How can an image be “defunct”? I guess the writer meant “debunked”. Oh well, I guess, if it gets past the spell check it must be OK.
if its fake, then why do the Interior shots match up with all the spy shots that have been taken?
Flash – and egg on the face for all the “experts”. Toyota has confirmed that the images are genuine.
For all those who slag off at the Prius – get with the program. This is the reality of motoring for the next few years. All those who hanker for the V8 rear wheel drive fire eating monsters are being as realistic as those who think that the world economy hasn’t changed in the last few months and that we can turn the clock back.
The other car that we all have to think about is the Chevvy Volt, if only GM can last long enough to get it into production – 2010/11 may be too late.
just a quick bit on the people calling it boring…
lol, again is the sky blue during summer?
is there water in the ocean?
the target demographic is for people looking for a small car that gets them from a to b.
its not suppose to get you a woody when you see it nor suppose to get you 0-100 in 4 seconds….
next…
Ok let me clear this up.. It’s a clay model showing two treatments on either side for the final design presentation to management. The interior is concept IMO cant see any switchgear (which is so expensive) duplicated with any other toyota product. Hmmm. I call teaser.
Your seeing this because Toyota wants you to, no leak.
DanMan, spot on.
It is not unusual for early mock-ups to be different on each side to present different ideas.
These differences often pop up later as a revised model, or can sometimes represent a variation of base/luxury models.
The shape seems good to me. Detailing like the sad guppy headlights and spindly wheels let the current (CURRENT! I just made a little joke!) Prius down, although I’ve always been a fan of its interior and concept in general.
This new car’s interior seems a retrograde step but, as DanMan says, let’s see if it looks more complete for production.
What is wrong with Toyota, havent the learnt from the 1st prius which is the uglist farker on the road..Blow up all these dam so called earth saving cars i say…the world has been here for billions of years before we can along and it will be here long after we dumb humans are gone….
They are genuine, its official!
Who cares, more advertisement for a company who cheats in all motorsport categories, who mainly sell to the ageing masses that only like boring, bland whitegoods parked in thier garages, Toyo don’t sell a performance hero car so that sux >>>> but good if your a fake motorsport follower, and to sum it all up Toy-mota is a very average car builder but people keep buying this overrated junk based on TV ads alone…
I give you a hint potential buyer’s, try test driving other car brands, because Toy-mota are no more reliable than any other car on the road, talk is cheap and Toyo are experts at brainwashing….
Exterior looks ok, a more aggresive evolution of the current prius. Interior is typical toyota boring rubbish though.
IMO the chevy volt looks better on the outside, obviously we haven’t seen an interior shot of the volt yet so have to wait and see on that
TVMOE…
worst post EVA!!!
Ford shares 2.40$
GM shares 6.41$
Toyota shares 67.45$ (courest yahoo stock)
you were saying…
DanMan,
And just how many of each share is there?
Price of individual shares alone does not dictate a companies worth (surely even you are not that stoopid?)
Your point does have some merit, you just don’t know how to put it across.
Hahaha Spam word is totally irrelevant here 300kw
Toyota claim this won’t be as green as it could be in an effort to give greater driver feel. (released on ather site so I can talk about it now) as their quality surveys have listed that as a detractor for customers.
Hmmm A sportier Prius???? Sounds like a Cardigan with a Zipper and Velcro tabs……. :-)
Hahaha… what next Toyota? Can’t wait for the Golf TwinDrive Hybrid, which won’t look like a fridge on wheels.
Its definately up there on the ugly chart, i keep seeing Hyundai i30 at the front. So far, the Volt is the best looking EV/Hybrid i’ve seen, followed by new Honda.
The real question is did they break the 4.0ltr/100 barrier that was being talked up a while ago? Does this one use the new Li-Ion batteries?.
“TVMOE…worst post EVA!!!”
I was kind of enjoying TVMOE’s little story, i was just wonder if it was going to end with Katsuaki Watanabe being announced as the new sith lord, and meeting with Craig Lowndes to announce he was craig’s father…
Team Vodafone Masters Of Endurance
best post EVA tells the truth about Toymota!!!
Ford shares 10000.40$
GM shares 10000.40$
Toyota shares are really worth $0 compared to Ford and GM, TOYO stock was above $100 at on stage, so out of all the vehicle manufacturers it has dropped the most by percentage, did you buy at $100 DM, loving the company sooo much would make a good stock pick at this price, but you would be poorer than me for doing so loser…
you were saying… hmmmmmm let me see, Dingo responds the same way as you do, with utter BS ohhhhh Toymota makes more money than Ford and GM, shares are way down, so your logic DAN MAN is buy cars based on profits the company makes and ads on TV or the share price, Toymota wins biggest move down during the crisis, way over priced stock anyway just like the cars just way overrated, go read some education books, stapling your shade clothed wrapped body to a post wont keep 200 killer wasps from stinging you..
FORD’S DOMESTIC NATIONAL BRAND QUALITY EQUAL TO BEST IN INDUSTRY FOR 2008 MODEL YEAR
Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles continue their impressive quality gains, collectively improving for the fourth straight year and moving into a virtual tie with Honda-Acura and Toyota-Lexus-Scion for the 2008 model year, according to the latest U.S. Global Quality Research System (GQRS) study.
Ford F-Series Super Duty and Lincoln Mark LT rank atop their respective segments with fewest “things gone wrong” (TGW) and in customer satisfaction. Ford Mustang GT500 had the least number of TGW among sports cars.
Overall, 18 of 24 Ford domestic brand vehicles posted TGW improvements, including the hot-selling Ford Focus.
DEARBORN, Oct. 10, 2008 – Ford Motor Company’s surging domestic quality is now equal to the best in the industry for the 2008 model year, according to the latest U.S. Global Quality Research System (GQRS) study.
Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles collectively reduced “things gone wrong” (TGW) by 7.7 percent compared to last year and are now statistically equivalent with Honda (including Acura) (including Lexus and Scion) atop the list of seven major automakers in the survey.
From 2004 to 2008, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle quality, as measured by a reduction in TGW, has improved by 33 percent.
”This is One Ford at its best. It’s taken thousands of people continuously working together with laser-like focus every day to boost vehicle quality for our customers to the top of the pack,” said Bennie Fowler, Ford group vice president, Global Quality. “But this is a never-ending journey. The goal now is to distance ourselves from our top competitors. We want to be the sole quality leader.”
The 2008-launched Ford F-Series Super Duty and the Lincoln Mark LT ranked first in their respective segments in both TGW and customer satisfaction. Ford Mustang GT 500 topped the sports car category in TGW.
Overall, 18 of 24 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles recorded TGW improvements. Ford’s newly launched Focus improved significantly in TGW and customer satisfaction, now equaling the Toyota Corolla in both categories. The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are significantly better in TGW than the Toyota Camry, which they tied in customer satisfaction.
“We are consistently delivering improved quality by following standardized, disciplined processes throughout Ford,” said Fowler. “This is particularly impressive considering the difficult challenges we’ve had to overcome.”
Ford also ranked best in class for TGW performance in the functional areas of Vehicle Engineering and Electrical among major manufacturers. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles averaged 1,287 TGW per 1,000 vehicles, a reduction of 108 versus a year ago. Customer satisfaction with the company’s vehicles reached its highest level ever, improving one point to 77 percent.

Share price’s while being short sighed at the best of times are a very good indicator of the state of confidence people have in the company.. the men in the braces with the shouty voices think the company is doing well and will continue to do so for a long time to come….
I have no real love for any company, as i stated elsewhere here, but i do TRUST Toyota..
If GM and Ford where human Beings they would be in a coma and on life support.. sad but true..

Confucious say Toy-mota come last with very bad balance, welcome to the real world of overall numbers DM…
Danman, agree, you would be more confident in buying shares (obviously to look to getting a profit or growth) in Toyota than GM or Ford, hence the situation they are all in.
I believe Toyota know the game better than Ford or GM during this era and with a no frills / disciplined strategic management which seems to be doing their job really well will help them going on.
Speaking of which perhaps a bit off the topic, I heard that Ford a planning to cut more jobs again from the news…
Richo, which rock have you been hiding under? There are interior shots of the Volt all over the net.
Anywho I’d rather a Volt than this new Prius.
