The first pictures of the new Volvo S60 Polestar have been revealed in an online video previewing the upcoming round of the Swedish TTA – Racing Elite League on June 16 at the Gothenburg City Arena.
According to Polestar Performance managing director Hans Baath in the video, the new Swedish Volvo S60-based power-sled is due to have its world premier at Gothenburg being put on display for the first time.
Volvo says the S60 Polestar is just a “performance concept road car” and whether more cars will be built is “an open question”. ”First of all we want to get feedback on this first prototype,” Baath said.
While under-bonnet specifications are yet to be released there remains consistent speculation. One possibility is a Yamaha-sourced V8, based on the 232kW 4.4-litre unit previously found in the Volvo XC90, tweaked to produce around 300kW or a version of the current S60’s 224kW turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder with a the wick turned up.
The new Volvo S60 Polestar can trace its roots to the C30 Polestar developed in 2010 and the S60 Performance Project that Volvo Car Australia debuted at the 2011 Melbourne motor show that led to the limited-edition run of Volvo S60 Polestars sold locally.
