Tom – I doubt that those who are looking at a V8 Sports Coupe would also be looking at a V8 Family Sedan and vice versa.
Therefore; If the Camaro is released in Oz its very unlikey to take sales away from the SS Sedan or Ute as they are in different sectors of the market.

If it is released here Holden would do better to rename it the Monaro as it has more of a History in Oz.. Just as the Monaro was called the GTO in the USA..

Although I doubt they will sell the Camaro/Monaro here.. there’s more chance of Holden making a new Torana A9-X Coupe

I’d love a Camaro SS, but the thing I dislike about my VE SS?
Can’t legally use it’s performance on any road.
It cruises beautifully at 140km/hr, which is virtually a “park it over there Son, & we’ll give you a lift back to the Station” type speed.
It has so much grip you can’t exploit the handling at any legal speed, & I’m very often stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat, but it would be too frustrating to own.

Danman, this is an amazing car for what it is, go back to 2004 and it would have been faster and more sophisticated than the BMW m3 of the time, worth over twice as much… Be realistic.

You’re probably right – GM won’t bring the Chevrolet brand to here.
A while ago GM/Holden did seriously consider selling Corvettes through HSV dealers. There’s no good reason why selling Camaros through HSV wouldn’t work – I’m sure there is a market for them.
As I said, I think it will depend on other RHD markets wanting the Camaro for us to be in with a chance.

GM won’t bring the Chevrolet brand to Australia as a “Premium” brand as Chevrolet replaced Daewoo in Europe a few years ago. Europe gets the Captiva, Epica, Lacetti (Viva), Aveo (Barina) and Tacuma (7 seat MPV not available here). In effect Chevrolet is GM’s “Cheapo” brand. I thought it was quite funny when I came to Australia and saw Commodores with their Holden badges removed and replaced by Chevrolet ones.

Tom i dont think it will kill holden sales that much. there are still Fleet and also dont forget the commodore has 4 Doors and a boot. its a family car people with a family get family cars not sports coupe’s unless there a rich family lol.

Actually, on second thoughts dont sell it here. It will just step on the SS Commodores toes. Holden have been engineering us fine performance cars for many years, the market for v8 vehicles is drying up and we don’t need their sales stolen by something that will be classed as a chevrolet next time GM is deciding if we get another billion dollars to build our next car,

Zero, the LS is about 34k Australian Dollars, which is about par for what we get here. The SS is about 46k Australian Dollars which is little bit cheaper than whats here (SS/XR8/XR6T/HSV/FPV)

John, I doubt it was ever planned to be built here, but the question of whether to bring it depends on other markets like Britain and South Africa.
We need them to also want the car, because a RHD batch just for us would not be cost effective.

I’m hoping that no-show at the Sydney Motor Show doesn’t mean we won’t get it. A Camaro SS priced similar to a Commodore SS would sell heaps.
Also, adding Chevrolet to the GM Premium Brands (alongside Saab, Hummer and Cadillac) would open the door us getting a RHD Corvette.
How good would that be!
