Skoda Yeti: sharper new look for compact SUV
CarAdvice's spy photographers have captured a prototype of the facelifted Skoda Yeti undergoing testing in Europe.
The mid-life update, which is expected to launch in the second half of next year, will be the first significant upgrade for the quirky yet impressive compact SUV since it was launched in 2009.
The front end will get a new lower bumper with larger air intakes to create a more masculine appearance. The chrome bar at the top of the grille will also be revised, and will likely mirror that of the Skoda MissionL concept, which previews the upcoming Skoda Rapid liftback.
The headlight and tail-light assemblies and the rear bumper are also set for an upgrade to give the Yeti a sharper, more modern look.
A number of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines from the current line-up should carry over, and will be updated with power and fuel efficiency enhancements as parent company Volkswagen makes improvements to its powertrain technology.
Despite earning largely positive reviews from the automotive media, the Skoda Yeti is yet to make a big impression on Australia’s small SUV class. In the first four months of this year, Skoda sold 316 Yetis across the country, well off the pace of the segment-leading Hyundai ix35 (3516 sales), Nissan Dualis (3437) and the Subaru XV (3368).
