Forza M; nope old son, worked at HO when Nissan was a local manufacturer producing dross such as Bluebirds (crap engines, crap brakes and rear main seal leaks to name just a few). Then replaced it with Pintara (crap engine, noisy diff) and Skyline (not too bad to drive for the time - had to turn up the crap stereo to drown out diff whine though). Had to deal with Generous Motors, supplying engines for the VL. Boy did Nissan ever get done over on that deal. Holden got the first really decent 6 Cyl engine since 1964 plus a turbo 6 that was just about as quick (or quicker) as their V8 at the time. We got blown head gaskets (home mechanics could never figure out how to air purge the engine) and the threat of a law suit with our add proclaiming "buy a Skyline, the car the engine was designed for" or words to that effect. That add holds a record for being pulled off the telly quickest.
No I had nothing to do with that! Stayed on until the closeure was anounced then got out to pastures greener. Part of the thrust of my note was that Nissan have some great cars available around the world that would suit our market much better than the Maxima (I would call it mid size as it is really Camry/Aurion sized as against Falcon and Commodore)if they were available in RHD. However Nissan Corp for reasons best known to themselves allowed specific RHD and LHD development rather than the global mandate taken at companies like Mazda and Toyota. This can be seen in cars like CX7/CX9 and Kluger/Highlander. I am only giving these examples. This would allow access to some of the Nissans passenger vehicles in the USA which would suit our market really well. They are well built and well designed cars that if priced right would sell much better than the Maxima. They also look a lot better. As for the Tiida, why were they forced to take a French designed car? They must have known it would bomb. Look some people might say it looks good, but I have never met one that does. Also why would you change away from such a well liked and respected name plate like Pulsar? Why do you think Toyota kept Corolla in Australia when many countries tokk the Auris name? I just hope that Nissans next range hits the market. They are a great company and despite some of the questionable decission made by HO in Japan, they do build reliable and well engineered cars, unlike some of the cars we built years ago. If you really want to find out where some of my points come from, call in at a couple of dealers and see how dispirited some of the staff are. Especially if they are near to a Toyota or Hyundai dealer...
Your point about Maxima being low volume is valid. But it was never supposed to be that way. Originally it was supposed to come in 3 levels of spec levels from basic to high spec. However sales bombed and one of the biggest buyers was (XXXXXX) car rental company.

eh168. Read what you wrote, then read what i wrote. If you had any clue about the industry you would know that Maxima has always been a slow seller, you might also know that the large car segment is the last place you would be focusing on at this point in time. I actually agreed with quite a bit with what you had to say, but i must admit i still think you are a half wit. You must work in the spare parts division, time to update your woollen vest old boy!!

Forza M, hmmm another idiot that should be banned from this blg. Well let me explain somthing. My figures are taken from an interview with Dan Thompson, the new Managing Director of Nissan Australia in about May 2008. The numbers came from his own mouth and I will also quote a statement he made. "Nissan cannot survive on SUV sales alone". "For us to survive, we need to grow passenger sales from where they are right now". He then went onto quote the exact figures I have given and also gave the example of Mazda's passenger sales splits.
Now if you like I can send you Nissan Austalia's head office address (I actually know it having worked there for so many years) and you can tell Dan that he is a halfwit, does not know hat he is talking about and should ask VFACTS what his company is selling because he obviously has no clue. He is a nice guy. But before YOU go insulting the rest of us, maybe YOU need to check your facts and figures. But then mouthing off at people is always soooooo much easier than doing research. I have also worked in the industry for 25 years in Australia, Europe and USA so I guess I do know something about it. Iguess from your comments you have done the same? probably not. Probably just an armchair expert.

Ian, yes you are right. I my rambling on October 10th I forgot to add in that Nissan Australia's passenger car sales have nosdived. Sorry about that. In 2007 Nissans total vehicle sales grew from 56'032 to 60'015. At the same time, their passenger vehicle sales (cars as opposed to commercial & 4wd) dropped from 36.6% to 27% of total vehicle sales. Year to date 2008, the passenger segment had dropped to 26.3%. So they are suffering at the moment, in the main due to Maxima and Tiida. I guess one of the problems with Maxima is that since it when on sale in 2003, it has barely had any major changes other than a minor exterior and interior update. But what Nissan did was to reduce the price by $5'000. Great if you don't care about re-sale figures or buy one second hand, but fleet buyers punished Nissan for it. The problem for Nissan in the near future, particularly if buyers gravitate away from large 4wd vehicles is that weak passenger car number. For the sake of numbers, Mazda's passenger car sales represent 70.3% of their total sales in Australia. Thats on the back of Mazda2, 3 and 6 sales. So Nissan Australia take the dreadful Tiida and Maximas away and shoot them and give us a nice new Pular and Skyline please!

"Go try a SV6 or XR6-non turbo and see how boring they are to drive." - its because those are daddy racer cars, they are infact ordinary 6's (family cars) with a sporty guise, whereas a 370z is more true to a sports car.

As someone mentioned the 370GT coupe.

yes I agree, better for the money too.
You can pick one up for 40K.... from importers.
But more luxury than performance really...

Xris, of course the turbocharged 6's are going to be blistering, but i was more referring to the na local 6's.

Go try a SV6 or XR6-non turbo and see how boring they are to drive.

I don't know what is about the Z cars; they look good on paper, and in the photos, but the real thing always leaves me cold.

I love it

its practically a "Porsche Carerra" but 1/3 the price... assuming it'll be around 70K AUD.

The "fat" look rear fenders, well, they can easily put 10 inch wide wheels there to increase traction and give it that "muscular" coupe look that Porsche and pretty all elite sports cars have.

The "heavier" looking rear half definitely a Porsche trademark.

I'm liking it, I was leaning towards the STi with my next car, but with this latest photos, especially the cammo ones, a white 370Z with anthracite staggered setup wheels and around 230kW... well... gonna be a blast.
