Toyota 86 wins first 24 Hours Nurburgring race

The Toyota 86 has proven its sporting metal at the 40th ADAC 24 Hours Nurburgring claiming two class wins in its first attempt at the motorsport marathon.


Gazoo Racing's Toyota 86 (pictured top) took first place in its SP3 class while completing 129 laps of 'The Green Hell' to finish overall in 46th position.

The V3 class victory went to the Toyota Swiss Racing 86, completing 119 laps for an overall finished of 78th place.

Toyota had even more to celebrate with the Gazoo Racing Lexus LFA (pictured above) completing 147 laps on its way to finishing first in its fifth 24 Hours Nurburgring with a class win in SP8 and a 15th place overall finish.

Audi took top honours for the weekend winning its first overall victory in the iconic endurance race with a one-two finish for the Audi R8 LMS ultra (pictured below) in the GT3 class ahead of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and 2011 winner Porsche.

Australians will get their first taste of the road-going Toyota 86 when the car launches on June 4, 2012.
