Top Gear Australia Episode 3 sneak peek

October 8, 2008 by George Skentzos

The controversy caused following the first two episodes of Top Gear Australia has divided the nation in a way comparable only to the iconic Holden versus Ford battle which has waged since before I can remember.

Fans expecting a UK quality performance have been left disappointed however many realise this is still early days, with the trio yet to find their rhythm.

As usual, CarAdvice has been given a sneak peek into the third instalment of Top Gear Australia which features the first trademark Top Gear cheap car challenge.

In the next episode, Charlie Cox, Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati will visit a local junkyard to piece together their own race car and compete in a series of challenges at Oran Park.

“Charlie, Warren or Steve threw themselves, and their cars, into this challenge with extraordinary gusto – all in the name of Top Gear Australia of course!” said Head of Production, Peter Abbott.

Warren will then take the BMW X6 Coupé 4WD and put it through its paces in a uniquely Australian manner while Pizzati road tests Clarkson’s favourite car – the F1-inspired Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series coupe.

The “Celebrity in a Bog Standard Car” for this week is host of RocKwiz Julia Zemiro.

Top Gear Australia airs Mondays at 7:30pm on SBS.

as a Massive Topgear Fan, i own all the UKTG DVDs, i think the first show wasnt to bad… its was a little rusty but there is a platform to build from… i loved when he launched the V6 Rav4… that was awesome, you will not see that on any other australian car show!

2nd show was so much better… the Black GT(40) was Awesome… the guys messing around in the R8 and F6 was good, again when will you see that type of driving by australian car show… had a bit of clarkson about it smoking the R8 and F6 up… and that the only real article that has had the Ford v Holden involved(so get over it badge snobs). and the Smart Car hurse was SO SO funny… had me laughing that for shore!! give it time and it will fall all in to place!

Next week’s show looks promising with the Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series coupe and the X6 (which i am a fan of) \ so i am i like what i see so far, it should improve each show!

    sounds good, cant wait!

  3. Sgt.Sweetchuck says:

Couldn’t be any worse than the previous two.

If people dont like it vote with your remote, but the first series of top gear uk wasn’t that good but it was interesting to watch, as with AusTG.
ChopstaR87 I have all the episodes since it started in the UK and TG as it has gone on has gotten better every episode the best episode is the reliant robbin space shuttle was just the ace.
I am giving the guys on AusTG a fair go that is the Aussie way.
Now we have to wait for USATG then we could have car shows all year round?
Maybe the ABC2 could make a version of Fifth Gear?

  5. Ivi01 says:

This show is one of the most frustrating road test shows I have ever watched (all of the three episodes). As with most modern day Australian car reviewers, they are so scared to say what they really think (in case they offend the car companies), that they give nothing but a broad brush listing of the car features. You may as well be reading the car manufacturers promo brochure.

How can you test two distinctly different cars (Holden V8 vs Ford turbo 6) and conclude the test with each tester saying they are equally the best car, they are fantastic and that everybody should buy one! It made me want to puke. Sorry but if we Australians cannot read/see honest opinions on our cars then I would rather read the overseas reviews.

  6. acilk says:

I agree with Ivi01. If they’re not going to speak their mind there isn’t much point.

And yes TG wasn’t the best back when it started (well… restarted…) but it was still A LOT better than TGA.

  7. http://melbournejester.blogspot.com/ says:

Unless these fellas start talking non-politically correct, unless these fellas start criticising government for their money-grabbing anti-auto approach from speeding revenue to LCT to many other taxes imposed on us this show does not have a chance.
Best thing with the one and only TG is their criticism of governemnt, and their anti-speed limit approach, this show is politcally correct, lets drive a 911 at 60km/h and talk how “green” the car is.
What a joke, waste of time. If I want to listen to junk I would listen to politicians.

  8. Jboy says:

Suggestion. Get rid of the contrived buddy buddy mate maaaaate stuff. Stop trying to be funny. Say what you really think about the car – if it’s junk, say it. Don’t do fake laughter. Get rid of the carbon copy UK presentation… you just look like a pale imitation. We want you to suceed, but at the moment all you are giving us is exactly the same show with three guys who are not Clarkson, Hammond & May, which makes it suck. Be original. Be Australian.

  9. Chucky says:

With Top Gear UK you have Jeremy as the arrogant stuck up guy, James as the eccentric, and Richard as the clown. With Top Gear Australia, they are all pretty much the same as each other!! Even Fifth Gear is more interesting, and thats saying something.

  10. AAA says:

When it comes to The Stig ..

Clarkson says : “Some say he’s blah blah blah ”
Cox says : “Some say he’s blah blah blah ”

Cox was trying too hard to act Clarkson :D

  11. Hando says:

Does anyone know if the show is recorded @ SBS Studios in Artarmon? Just recieved an invite but it doesnt say where it is recorded?

    Any idea? Thanks!

  12. Wopenka says:

The Porblem with Top Gear Australia is they are trying to hard to be or out do the UK team.. They need to calm down abit and not try to excite the audience with such over enthusiastic voices. Although that old guy is the only one who is any good in the show. Lets hope it improves. Lets hope we see a Top Gear Australia vs Top Gear UK showdown :D

  13. From the feedback on this blog, you cannot say that TGA has divided the nation. The condemnation is almost universal. The teasers such as these sneak peaks show how weak the show is. It cannot stand on its own.

As has been overwhelming stated, get some decent presenters etc, etc, etc.

It is sad that this is such a poor show as it makes it harder for anyone to get a decent show to air.

  14. Gibbo says:

Sounds awsome can’t wait. Every Monday night at 8:30pm I get dissapointed because its the longest amount of time I have to wait before more Top Gear. Top Gear Rocks, I can’t till Monday!

“As usual, CarAdvice has been given a sneak peek”

Not that it’s on their website or anything…

    LOL

sbs should go back to tguk before they lose all ratings on mondai at 730
least when tguk started there was no othr show like it unlike tgaus its just trying to b a carbon copi of tguk comon there just 3 guys who thnk there hot shit wen wow they thnk there gd because they can drift the cars news flash if we wanted to see a f6 or r8 drifting we would go watch vids on youtube

  17. GTStripes says:

Overall I’m pretty happy with the show despite the current try hard approach. There’s a rich history of Australian motoring which should set it apart from the UK version – I’m not a Falcon/Commodore lover but it was still great to see those two Aussie icons being thrashed around on the track.

On the downside I really hate the lap track with all the cones and bollards, it’s just not easy to follow what’s going on.
