Mercedes-Benz Australia is celebrating 30 years of the German brand’s entry-level luxury car with the special ‘Edition 30′ package for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The $3390 Edition 30 pack is available on the C200 and C200 CDI variants. It includes 17-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, Comand system with satellite navigation and a reversing camera, saving customers more than $3000 if they ordered the options individually.

The Edition 30 option takes the price of the C200 sedan to $61,990 and the C200 CDI sedan to $64,290 before on-road costs.

Mercedes-Benz first entered the compact executive class in 1982 when it launched the Mercedes 190 (codenamed W201). The first-generation C-Class (W202) debuted in 1993 and was followed by the second-gen C-Class (W203) in 2000.

The current C-Class (W204) entered production in 2007 and received a facelift in 2011, updating it to the form that is sold in showrooms today.

Mercedes-Benz Australia celebrated another C-Class milestone this year, as it passed 30,000 sales of the current-generation car in February.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the most popular vehicle in Australia’s $60,000-plus medium car segment. Between January and April, 2149 were sold across the country, giving Mercedes a 38.1 per cent share of the market, well clear of the BMW 3-Series (1269 sales, 22.5 per cent) and the Audi A4 (949 sales, 16.8 per cent).

The C-Class is actually the fourth highest selling medium car in the country, regardless of price. It trails the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord Euro and Mazda6, but so far this year has outsold the Subaru Liberty, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat and the Hyundai i40/i45.

  • The truth

i think the first sentence is an error. it should read:
Mercedes-Benz Australia is celebrating 30 years of ripping Ausies off

Hmm just like how Holden sold the $55k SS V in the US for $29K?

         +1

I don’t think mercedes is a rip off. just look at this package for example. i bought a c200 last month (april 13th) and they gave me the same price ($3390) for the options. even though they didn’t mention this 30 year thing.

my point is, i read a few days/weeks ago on caradvice that the bmw x5 has received a price reduction and one of the people to comment was annoyed he had paid 10k extra, only a week ago…

      see where I’m going here?

if not, mercedes provide discounts. unlike bmw. or holden for that matter – ssv thing as said by 2371.

      • theillestlife

provides discounts meaning, they don’t pretend to be unaware of a special package in the upcoming weeks and rip customers off.

I feel sorry for you – you paid for something that comes for free on the C-Class.  17″ alloys.

        • D3n0tz

Nope, the standard for C200 and C200 CDi is 16″ now.

          • MisterZed

            Sorry my mistake.

        • theillestlife

Don’t feel sorry, because I got Comand, reverse camera and sunroof in the deal.

I don’t even care about the wheels, because I’ve ordered BBS LM’s for it. so 17 or 16 or even hub caps, i wouldnt of cared :P

    • MisterZed

It should be called Edition 19.  As the article states, the C-Class did not exist until 1993.

  • MisterZed

Um, 17″ alloy wheels come standard on all C200s.  So what, you get a different style 17″ wheel in this $3390 package?!

  • John

still not worth 6 times a proton s16

    • John

i should ad, the mercs depreciation after 1 year would cover the cost of an s16…badge snobs.

      • James

Oh, so now we should all drive Protons lest we be vilified as snobs by John the car nazi.

    • Sam

So what would you do with 6 Protons ?
I don’t know anyone who want’s 1 Proton let alone 6, but heaps of people want a c-class.

    • trololololol

A bucket full of fish guts isn’t even worth 6 proton s16′s.

The Merc C-200 limited edition in Sept. 2011 was much better. Driveaway at $59,990 with metallic paint included. If the latest BMW 320i takes back some market share away from Merc., there will probably be another limited edition by year end.

I ordered one of these beauties  July delivery.
Edition 30 package .Managed a very pleasing discount to boot.

I forgot to mention the stop start tech. Takes a while to get used to but will be worth it in the long run. My overall experience at the Mercedes dealership was a 10/10 experience.
I did not get the same vibe from the BMW crew? or Audi for that matter.
