BMW M5 and M3 M Performance Editions revealed

The BMW M5 and M3 M Performance Editions have been revealed in a video and a series of new photos.

Featured in three colours - Frozen Red, Frozen White and Frozen Blue – the 30 UK-bound limited edition models feature matt black 20-inch alloy wheels, black leather interior and matching piano black cabin trim. A plaque signifying each car's limited build number is also mounted on the dash.

The engines remain unchanged, meaning the M5's twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 still produces 412kW and 680Nm while the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre M3 V8 spits out 309kW and 400Nm.

The M5 M Performance Edition comes at a £22,000 ($35,000) premium over the standard M5 and its brother in arms will set you back £19,000 ($30,500) more.

The two models are so far unconfirmed for our shores, although CarAdvice understands BMW Australia is investigating whether it can source the special edition parts for local customers. BMW will launch the M Performance range in Australia in June when it introduces the triple-turbocharged X5 M50d and X6 M50d models, and could bolster that line-up before the end of the year with the M135i hot-hatch.

The M Performance editions follow in the footsteps of the BMW M3 Pure Edition I and Pure Edition II and BMW M3 Frozen Silver Edition.
