Mini Countryman Coupe spy shots

The all-new Mini Countryman Coupe has been spotted undergoing testing in near-production form in Germany.

The Countryman Coupe is simply that: a two-door version of the Mini Countryman SUV that went into production in the second half of 2010 and has been on sale in Australia since February 2011.

As these images show, the Mini Countryman Coupe will be almost identical to the Mini Paceman concept that debuted at the 2011 Detroit motor show, combining the chunky features and boosted ride height of the Countryman with the two-door styling and sloping ‘helmet-head’ floating roof of the recently launched Mini Coupe.

Mini Australia general manager Kai Bruesewitz confirmed to CarAdvice earlier this year the Countryman Coupe would become the seventh model line in the company’s local range. Bruesewitz said production was scheduled to begin in the first half of 2013, ahead of the car’s Australian launch around the middle of the year.

The Countryman Coupe is expected to feature the same 1.6-litre engines as the conventional four-door Countryman, including the fuel-efficient 82kW/270Nm diesel and the turbocharged 135kW/240Nm petrol for the Cooper S variants.

The brand’s ‘ALL4’ all-wheel-drive system will also be available to give the city-styled crossover some off-road credibility.

The Mini Countryman Coupe prototype pictured here wears the sporty Cooper S grille and alloys. While not confirmed at this stage, it seems a formality that Mini will create an even sportier Countryman Coupe John Cooper Works to join the Countryman JCW that goes on sale in Australia in the final quarter of 2012.
