Rumours are rife that the Need for Speed video game franchise has started the wheels in motion for a feature film debut.

Reports from Variety and deadline.com suggest a deal between DreamWorks and Electronic Arts for the movie rights to Need for Speed is close to being signed.

Screenwriter John Gatins, of 2011′s Real Steel fame, has been linked to the project as a producer while his brother George Gatins has written the script.

Sony and Paramount have also expressed interest in the project.

The movie is expected to hit theatres in 2014, 20 years after the original Need for Speed video game was released.

Yeah, and battleship sucked. This may be one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard.

gotta love them critics init. reminds me of a joke. Q: how many critics does it take to change a light bulb? A: none, they just tell you its dark

You might want to get Alfred to get back to the bat-cave to work on your humour, because that sucked.

The script wouldn’t be too hard to write if the producers based the story on how I play NFS… some guy crashing his un-smashable flash car into cops and oncoming traffic and doing donuts and running red lights all at the same time. Oh and somewhere in between all that a race happens…

an animated too fast too furious

Wonder which NFS they basing on, I am punting it will be ‘the run’,

I think so too.  My fave was Most Wanted, the female lead (Josie Maran?) was really my cuppa and the game was a lot of fun too.  But then NFSU2 had the best soundtrack…

I predict a huge fail. Movies based on computer games are NEVER done well enough. People go to see them and expect the same experience they get by playing the game but that will never happen as you arent as involved in the movie as you are with an interactive game.
