New Honda CRX

March 1, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Yes, its true! Honda is working on a new CRX! Finally after many years of refusing to build a new CRX, Honda’s thinking has changed. Winding Road reports that whilst it is still early days a serious design proposal is under way at the company’s R&D design studios.

For Honda fans the next few months are a crucial time as Honda management will decide whether or not to bring a new CRX into production.

1998 Honda CRX

Whilst the Honda CRX was never the fastest car on the road, its light weight matched with 1.6-liter VTEC engine always gave the car a immense amount of street credibility and helped raise Honda’s image amongst the youth worldwide. However just as the Fox Network continues to kill of its best TV shows, Honda management decided to kill off the CRX amid lackluster sales and emphasis on more money (following similar thinking from Nissan which killed the GTiR pulsar and Toyota which killed the Supra).

However, being the Car Industry controlled by money, the unfortunate thing about sports cars isn’t whether or not they are fast, or if they handle well of it they get a whole street full of people to stop what they are doing and look. Its whether or not they sell. So what makes Honda think it can sell the new CRX? Honda fans must thank BMW for bringing out the new Mini Cooper which has been a big success in the small sport car world. This has given Honda some enthusiasm to try and compete!

Will the CRX be back? Its not a definite by a long shot, but as far as CRX revival stories go, this is the best one yet!
