Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept revealed

Peugeot has chosen the Beijing Motor Show to reveal its newest creation, the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept.

Created collaboratively by Style Peugeot in Paris, Shanghai and Sao Paolo, the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept is the French car maker’s answer to rising urban populations around the globe.

In 2010, there were 30 cities with populations over 10 million. By 2050, a staggering 5.3 billion people will live in ‘mega-conurbations’.

Peugeot believes it has created a multi-role compact vehicle, “Equally at ease in the urban infrastructure, as it is on the open road”.

With the Urban Crossover Concept, the emphasis is on small – (length of 4140mm, width of 1740mm), something that Peugeot has had a good deal of success with. The French car maker has sold 15 million 200-series cars and over 368,000 of the 3008 crossovers have been produced to date.

The Urban Crossover Concept reflects Peugeot’s new styling direction and embodies large car traits in a compact SUV package, but with saloon-style elegance.

This is an evolution of Peugeot’s HR1 concept shown in Paris in 2011.

Peugeot designers have evolved the latest company feline face, with a floating grille and metallic outline.

The bonnet has been aggressively sculptured and there’s an interesting dual-aspect treatment of Peugeot’s new lion emblem.

The headlamps, too, are an original design, which advances the new corporate face further still.

The windscreen is heavily raked, as is the case on most current Peugeot models, which meets the roof as a continuous line through to the spoiler. The sidelines move in the direction of the road and are supposed to symbolise dynamic agility.

The wheel arches are overly round and accommodate a larger wheel size and there's a raised body - common on all-road-type vehicles.

The wave in the double bubble roof is clearly inspired by the Peugeot RCZ coupe, but taken further with styled roof bars and an aluminium spoiler.

The LED rear lamps present an outline of three feline claws (also a feature of the Peugeot 508 RXH headlamps), which appear to be floating.

Expect highlights and design accents from Peugeot’s Urban Crossover Concept to appear in future model updates such as the next-generation RCZ.
