Ferrari 458 Italia special edition released to mark Chinese milestone

Ferrari is celebrating 20 years in China with a new exhibition and a new supercar.

To mark the anniversary of the sale of the first Ferrari in China - a Ferrari 348 TS ordered by a Beijing customer in 1992 - Ferrari is opening an exhibition at the Italia Center in the Shanghai World Expo Park and releasing a China-only limited edition 458 Italia.

The first exhibition of its kind outside the prancing horse’s Maranello hometown, the Italia Center exhibition covers 900 square metres and will last for three years and feature collection highlights from the Maranello Museum in Italy.

The achievement also gives Ferrari an excuse to introduce the 20th Anniversary Special Edition 458 Italia exclusively for the Chinese market.

Only 20 of the special edition 458s will be made with purely stylistic changes including a new Marco Polo Red colour, golden dragon graphic on the bonnet, gold and black stripes up the centre of the car, gold touches on the front winglets and down the sills, gold embroidery on the head rests, an engine start button inscribed with the Chinese characters for ‘start’, a 20th Anniversary Special Edition dash plaque and wheels finished in, you guessed it, gold.

Ferrari says the inspiration for the livery came from the Chinese longma theme, which means “the vigour and spirit of the legendary dragon-horse".

The Ferrari 458 Italia 20th Anniversary Special Edition will be unveiled at the inauguration of the Ferrari Exhibition in Shanghai in the coming weeks.
