Suzuki Swift recalled in Australia: 11,000 cars affected
Suzuki Australia has recalled approximately 11,000 Suzuki Swift hatchbacks to repair a potential defect with the car’s fuel filler pipe hose.
The recall affects all current-generation Swift models, available in Australia between February 1, 2011 and March 29, 2012. More than 90,000 vehicles have been recalled around the world to repair the defect, including more than 45,000 in Japan.
The official recall notice on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission’s website explains:
“A production error has occurred with the installation of the fuel filler pipe hose clamp.
“Deformation of the rubber filler hose may result in fuel escaping from the fuel tank filler port. In rare cases, this may result in a fire hazard.”
Suzuki Australia’s Andrew Ellis said there have been no local reports or incidents relating to the defect.
Ellis explained the recall repair involved replacing the hose and clamp – a job that should be completed in around 30 minutes.
He said Suzuki would contact affected owners by mail in the coming weeks, and said customers are advised to contact their authorised Suzuki dealer to arrange an appointment to complete the work.
