Lexus keen to develop small SUV: report
Lexus is reportedly keen to enter the luxury compact SUV market, currently occupied by the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X3, Range Rover Evoque and the Mercedes-Benz GLK.
Lexus Europe vice president Andy Pfeiffenberger told UK publication AutoExpress: “We have been very slow to come to the market with a downsize SUV. This is an area of our range that you will see develop over the next few years.”
A hybrid system is believed to be the most likely powertrain for the new sub-RX Lexus SUV, which would be priced from around 30,000 euros ($38,000).
The news follows confirmation from the Japanese luxury car maker that it will unveil the 2013 Lexus ES compact sedan at next week's New York auto show.
