    Honda needs to get diesels into this car. Who will accept anything over 10lt/100kms in this day with rising fuel prices. Secondly the interior is typical Japanese with cheap hard plastics everywhere. Time to bring some decent European MPVs to oz.

      Not a big enough market for more pure people movers, most people wanting a people mover these days get a large SUV with occasional 7 seat capability.
      The other competitor is the Mitsubishi Grande. If still imported?

         They Dropped The Mitsubishi Grandis at the start of last year due to oldness (2004-2011) and No ESC…

    The tail-lights on the base model are ugly.  The Luxury model has clear-lens (smoked) tail-lights which look *much* better.

    The satnav is based on a Garmin system, could be a Kenwood head unit. This Odyssey shape has been out since 2003 and is due for replacement any time soon. Perhaps Honda is getting some car websites to review the run-out models to increase the sales.

      Er, no, the current Odyssey came out in 2009.  It’s completely different to the model before it.

        As different as the VE->VF, VB->VC->VH->VL Commodores or EA->EB->ED->EF->EL Falcons. Basically the same model with different creases in the panels and plastic parts. Minor changes in the interiors.

          In your Commodore and Falcon examples, the doors, windows/glass and roof stay exactly the same through each update – only the front and rear of the car changes.  With the Odyssey, every single panel changed, every peice of glass.  Yes, the wheelbase, length and width are virtually identical from the previous model, but it’s otherwise a complete reskin inside and out.

            The Falcon from XD->XE->XF had even more changes than this Odyssey “upgrade”/”update” in 2008. From XD to XE the rear suspension was changed from leaf springs to Watts linkage coils and many other changes. From XE to XF totally new interior dash board and tons of other changes. From VC->VL, the Commodore had extra side rear windows put in. Extra windows would be a bigger change than altered windows in the Odyssey 2008 update.

    Sliding doors are so much practical than normal hinged doors for bigger cars. At least you can open them fully and not having to worry about hitting the car next to you or the garage walls in a tight spot but as the article says, it is useful for the parents with kids. Actually wish more cars come with sliding doors purely for the practicality reason.

    Also must say that something you’ve omitted is the rear anchorage points being on the floor that interferes with the load capacity. Sure the boot without the 3rd row is huge enough to load prams willy nilly but it’d be nice to see it packed in a way that will maximise the boot capacity (maybe not standing vertically but not diagonally as your photo depicts.

    No doubt the Odyssey is the pick of the peoplemover bunch in a beauty contest, but when you are in the trenches with 6, 7 or _ damit _ even 8 passengers you are going to find this one wears a frilly skirt. Simple fact is that if you are buying a seven or eight seater then you probably need that many as nobody in their right mind wil buy one for fun. In that case, you are also going to need to be able to transport said brood and a fair degree of luggage, and sadly for the Honda that is a step too far. There is a reason why the Kia Carnival commands more than a one-in-three dominance of the PM market. The thing is uber-practical and can take a full load of bodies and still have room for the shopping/beach/sports gear.

      I’m predicting that once Kia update the carnival to match the likes of the new Rio and Optima, it will be unstoppable in its segment.

        “….unstoppable in its segment.” PM segment – a drop in the ocean compared to the SUV segment. Think KIA would rather sell more Sorrento and Sportage than the Grand Carnival. Won’t be surprised if KIA drops the Grand Carnival along with the Rondo 7 from it’s Australian line-up in the future – never sell well here, never will!
