Jeep reveals six Easter Safari concepts

Jeep has taken the wraps off six new concept vehicles in the lead-up to the 46th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Utah, US.

The six unique concepts will join thousands of off-road enthusiasts at the weeklong rally, which covers some of the country’s most famous and challenging trails.

First up is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept. Off-road enhancements include 18-inch Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor tyres with sidewall protection, and modified Mopar rock rails to protect the lower body from rugged terrain.

Visually, the Trailhawk is finished in white, grey and red, with special attention paid to the grille and alloy wheels. The matt black bonnet is designed to reduce glare during technical off-road manoeuvres.

Next is the Jeep Wrangler Apache from Mopar. The Apache answers the prayers of Jeep enthusiasts, packing a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 engine with 350kW of power and 637Nm of torque. The conversion kit will be available to US customers in the coming months.

Other performance upgrades include Mopar Pro 60 axles, 4.5-inch long-arm lift kit and off-road bead-lock wheels, while flat wheel arches, rock rails, front and rear half doors, a front-mounted winch and leather seats complete the black and blue themed package.

The most imposing is the Jeep Mighty FC Concept, which draws inspiration from the Jeep Forward Control ute that was built between 1956 and 1965. The design team started with a Wrangler Rubicon and repositioned the cabin ahead of and over the front axle, lengthened the wheelbase, and added a drop-side cargo box.

Other unique features include the massive 40-inch tyres, 17-inch Hutchinson bead-lock wheels, King coil-over reservoir shocks and a stainless steel exhaust system.

Then comes the Jeep J-12 Concept, which is essentially an extended version of Mopar’s recently introduced JK-8 Wrangler Unlimited conversion. The rear of the vehicle’s frame is lengthened by 18 inches, creating a 1.8m-long cargo area. The custom bonnet and grille is a nod to the Gladiator series of pick-ups.

A three-inch suspension lift helps accommodate the 36-inch tyres, while inside, the cabin has been dressed down with an old school bench seat.

The Jeep Wrangler Traildozer Concept was designed to tackle Moab’s toughest trails. It also adopts the 350kW Hemi V8, along with a six-speed manual Getrag transmission, 37-inch tyres, and an extreme off-road body kit.

Lastly, there’s the Mopar-accessorised Jeep Wrangler. With dozens of optional features – two-inch lift kit, 35-inch tyres, off-road bumpers, 6.5-inch two-way speakers, hard-top headliner and windshield-mounted LED lamps – the concept is designed to showcase the customisation potential of the Wrangler.

The six concepts join a list of more than 30 vehicles that Jeep and Mopar have combined to create for the Easter Jeep Safari since 2002.
