2012 Holden Colorado 7: first look at new ute-based SUV
The all-new Holden Colorado 7 has been previewed ahead of the world premiere of its sister car – the Chevrolet TrailBlazer – at next week's Bangkok international motor show.
The seven-seat Colorado 7 will be a rebadged, localised version of the TrailBlazer, which is based on the all-new Colorado ute.
The Australian launch of the heavy-duty four-wheel-drive has been brought forward to the end of 2012, after Holden earlier said the Colorado 7 SUV would not arrive here until 2013. It will hit local showrooms a few months after the all-new Colorado ute range, which is due here midyear.
In November, General Motors confirmed the TrailBlazer – and presumably Holden’s Colorado 7 – would be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine, which will almost certainly be shared with the Colorado ute.
In the ute, the turbocharged engine generates 132kW of power (at 3800rpm), 440Nm of torque (at 2000rpm) when teamed with a five-speed manual transmission, and 470Nm (also at 2000rpm) when paired with a six-speed automatic.
The Colorado 7 will feature coil-sprung five-link rear suspension and a three-tonne towing capacity.
The Colorado 7 will sit at the top of Holden’s three-tier SUV line-up, joining the mid-sized Captiva 5 and larger Captiva 7.
More details of the TrailBlazer will be revealed in Bangkok on March 28, while Holden will release local specification and pricing information closer to the Colorado 7’s Australian launch later this year.
