Citroen DS9: French S-Class rival teased

Teaser images have been released for the upcoming Citroen DS9, the new flagship version of the French brand's premium DS range.

The top-of-the-line Citroen DS9 follows on from Citroen's C6-based Metropolis Concept car shown at the 2010 Shanghai motor show and would join the DS3 city car, and more recent DS4 small car and DS5 mid-sizer.

Where the Metropolis was clearly a sedan, the profile image suggests a possible shooting-brake-style rear end for the Citroen DS9.

The DS9 will clearly be aimed at China, Citroen’s biggest market, and is intended to be part of three China-only cars including a C-segment sedan and an SUV.

It’s not yet clear whether the Citroen DS9 would be sold in other markets.

Citroen’s new DS9 would go head-to-head with luxury limos such as the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The Metropolis concept car was shown with a 2.0-litre petrol V6 linked to an electric motor but the DS9’s powerplant is yet to be revealed.

The Citroen DS9 is due to debut at the 2012 Beijing motor show in April.
