Mini Clubvan concept revealed

The new Mini Clubvan concept has been revealed ahead of its Geneva show debut, sporting a unique panel-van-style body.

Although not yet official, the Clubvan is set to form the basis of an upcoming production vehicle. It's expected to be the first of a string of new models to come from Mini in the near future.

The Clubvan is based on the current Clubman and features a decent rear cargo area. There are no rear seats, however, the iconic rear, reverse-opening side door still remains.

In Europe, small vehicles like the Citroen Berlingo and Volkswagen Caddy are popular due to their compact size and ability as mobile delivery vehicles. It is believed Mini is keen to take a slice of that market.

The Clubvan features a stainless steel divider to separate occupants from objects in the rear, while a set of shelves and various other options could be headed for the production model.

Power for the production model will apparently come from the 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine found in the current Mini Cooper D. It produces 82kW and 270Nm. A petrol version could also be on the way.

More details will be revealed at the Geneva show, starting March 6.
