AMG goes 360
Mercedez-Benz’s performance arm, AMG - which if you’re interested, stands for Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach, the first two words being the surnames of the founders: former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, and the last word being a town called Großaspach, which is situated near Stuttgart - has come out with a new website.
AMG-360.com includes a host of videos, photos and specifications. Nothing special about that, but the videos are a little different from what you might expect. Each scene is viewable from all angles, moved around on the fly using the mouse (very cool).
The videos were filmed using the fancy little cameras pictured on the right. It’s good to see car manufacturers embracing the online world with a little more finesse.
Highlights include a drag video as well as a hot lap in the C63 AMG. Those more interested in the cruising prospects of the German machines can watch the cars as they lap the Las Vegas strip.
You can check the website out here. Just note it’s rather bandwidth hungry.

Pretty cool website really. AMG make some cool stuff, pity it is priced out of reach of most.

I’m possibly stating the obvious here, but AMG being out of the reach of most, and the exclusivity that comes with it, is part of the appeal. It would cheapen the brand considerably if were to compete in the ‘common’ spaces of HSV, FPV, etc. Subaru’s learnt the hard way that who your cars end up with can have a flow on effect to car new sales. It’s sad to see Bogans cheapen a good brand.

When your car is all about image, you know you are a tosser…

Agreed Supercujo. I’ll have a car with substance (which obviously comes first), appeal and if there’s some exclusivity and a little ego boosting image in there too then it’s a bonus. :-)
