New Honda Civic Revealed
August 21, 2008 by Alborz Fallah
Pictures of the next-generation European designed Honda Civic have surfaced on the web. The current Civic Type-R, which differs to the Japanese made models will be replaced with an even wilder variant in 2010.
Honda will have a lot of competition on its hands by the time the new Civic is released. Not only is the new Astra due by then but the all-new Ford Focus as well.
Those of us with a good memory might be thinking the new Civic looks a little similar to the Honda OSM concept, and we’d be right. The front-on look is without a doubt inspired by the concept car.
Honda will have two different variants of the European Civic, a three-door hatchback ‘coupé’ for the young and a five-door, for the, uh… traditional Civic buyers.
The three-door variant will come with sporty alloys, sports bodykit, plus it will sit closer to the ground and hug its occupants with sports seats. Additionally the five-door will have a higher roofline and more practical features like a decent sized boot and a more comfortable ride.
Engines are still unconfirmed, however rumour has it the Civic will get a revised 1.5-litre hybrid engine that will manage at least 112kW and produce less than 120g/km of CO2 emissions.
The car we are interested in most, of course, is the next generation Type-R. This time it’s fair to assume that Honda might infact release a hybrid Type-R, put the current high-revving 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine and add an electric motor? Yes please.
More information on the new generation Civic as it comes.

hmm, 2.0L NA + electric motor – something like a lexus.. or ‘new age supercharger’. Should be interesting as the electric motor will help with the torque. Winder if driven sedately it will give hybrid fuel figures but when driven hard – something more than the 2.0L NA’s performance?
lookin sharp, lets hope it actually looks atleast similar to that
So the civic is now a coupe?
Sorry, but that looks like a photoshop.
Stretched lancer snout with the radiator grill under the bumper Mondeo style.
Hondas are good cars on good roads. Not really suited to our broken bitumen though.
That looks fantastic, but how is the four-door we get saddled with going to look?
That is a great looking car but id have to agree with tom about the photoshop. Fingers crossed this is the new look
looks sweet,
Cross breed between an s2000 and the lancer from the front.
Tom – the Civic coupe is not a new thing, check out the SI in the USDM
Like it or not, this looks very Mitsubishi.
Thats nothing more than a photo-shoped VW scirocco….get real here
Which is already on sale in europe by the way just google VW scirocco if you need to see the real car then you will see how laughable this is!
Looking even wilder? I think ‘wild’ is a bit of a stretch when desribing the look of the current Type R which is little more than a mode of transport for hairdressers.
Rest assured there is between buckleys and zero chance that Honda will ever make anything that looks like that. They have (sadly) become far too conservative.
i dont want to rant, but there is nothing conservative about the european civic which we get here in type r form, and as long as honda UK makes the next civic hatch that will also not be conservative. the current euro civic can only be described as a radical departure from any previous civic. the next one from UK will probably do it again
the japanese sedan civic on the other hand, is conservative like most of the honda range in australia. that is because they come from japan
People probably dont know this, but honda UK used to have a problem with hondas being stereotyped as cars for old people because their cars were too boring and reliable. so old people loved them. but with their newest civic they killed that stereotype with figures and widespread opinion to back that up
as for civic coupes, i have a parking fine which described my civic type r as “honda coupe”. not sure if that counts ;)
I really wish we got the american Civic Si, they seem like a very well rounded car for a good price.
lol well the yanks complain about not getting the type R. they have to put up with civic Si’s and integra type S’s which arent as performance orientated as they’d like. grass is always greener on the other side
good car to check out is the honda accord coupe in the USA. gorgeous looking thing
This new civic will be sale in USA or just in europe?
