Kia Track-ster concept teaser #2

Kia is teasing us again with another image of its soon to be unveiled Track-ster concept.

We saw the first glimpse of the Track-ster last week and this additional image reveals the rear lights and further emphasis the vehicle’s flared wheel arches.

As with a few of Kia’s recent concepts, the Track-ster is based on the boxy Kia Soul. But in this case it has emerged as a two-door sports hatch.

No doubt the concept will look a little out there and a possibly a tad over the top, but you have the give the Koreans credit for continuing to push the envelope with modern automotive designs. Not that Koreans designed the Track-ster, it’s the work of Tom Kearns, Kia’s chief designer in California.

Will it go into production? More news on that when we see it unveiled in Chicago in less than 36 hours. We suspect it will sport the Hyundai Veloster Turbo’s 1.6-litre GDI four-cylinder unit, producing around 152 kW and 265 Nm of torque.

Kia would certainly benefit from a sporty hatch to help build its brand credentials further but we will more than likely have to wait and see how well the Veloster sells before this can become reality.
