The porsche design always makes my heart skip a beat. It is pure and classic and will never date as long as they stick to the original design blueprint. Keep it simple and don't over complicate which is easily done.

Tut Tut bavarian missile

have a 997 turbo and a boxster (3.2)

not a poor man porsche at all, just a different proposition

actually prefer boxster most of the time

as for the evolutionary design process

well i guess you have to love the brand to understand

its always been about the introduction of new technology which is the way it should be after all it is a motor car with a pedigree and when you have got the shape down as they have why change it for changes sake

James - exactly. The 911 stopped throwing people into the bushes some time back. Now its squat and sprint.

I own a Cayman S and a 911 S. The 911 has the engine in the right place. The amount of traction the back tires have is incredible. Try taking off in the wet in a 911 vs a Cayman and you'll understand why the 911 is better.

Mac: I wasn't questioning why people buy Porsches, I was questioning why someone would buy a car where all the engine weight is behind the rear wheels, just waiting to bury you in the bushes lest you relax for one second. Sure, it must be a buzz riding on the edge of a razor, but just like I have car insurance in case of a moment lacking concentration, I like my car to not have the potential to bite me if I lift off slightly too much going hard through a corner.

Go drive a 911 - then you will know why people buy Porsches.

Why do people buy 911s?

The Cayman has much better proportions, has the engine in the right spot and is cheaper by a long way. Why would you bother with a 911?

Porsche are deliberately keeping the Cayman slower than the 911, the Cayman S is only marginally slower than the 911 Carrera around the 'ring. Aftermarket Porsche tuning companies are working on this. But they have to be careful that they don't piss off Porsche so they are denied from early release future model details.

I would love to see what someone could do with the engine from a 911 Turbo in the Cayman. That would seriously kick arse.
