Abarth: New Cars 2012
The high-performance division of Fiat is aiming to race forward in the New Year after a successful Australian launch in 2011. The line-up will be stable throughout 2012, with the Fiat 500-based 500 Esseesse and 500C Esseesse flying the flag. The price premium of Abarth’s cars didn’t scare off Australians in 2011. Between January and November, 208 Abarths were registered across the country, just 76 vehicles behind the Fiat 500 and 500C.

The Scorpion brand’s first convertible went on sale in November and most of the initial batch will hit Australian roads in January. Priced from $38,990, the 500C Esseesse is $4000 more than the hard-top Abarth 500 Esseesse and $10,000 more than the standard Fiat 500C. All that cash gets you a 118kW/230Nm 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the five-speed semi-automatic transmission from the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari. The 500C Esseesse is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds and uses just 6.5 litres of fuel per 100km on the combined cycle.
