so larry wilkins, you say the majority of us will never be able to afford a lexus. lexus is a cheap car. it's a toyota that they charge a little extra for. as i said before my dad has a maybach 62s and i an s600. both of the cars are made by the same father company, and neither have had to get work done. i have also recently bought a mercedes slr coupe. this car doesn't have any competition from lexus because frankly the biggest engine lexus makes doesn't come near the horsepower of my slr. so i'm glad you have had 9 lexuses, but i guarentee they were on lease and if you actually had some money you would have only have had 4 or 5 lexuses. you don't actually have the money to buy a lexus. i on the other hand bought all my cars cash in hand. anyone with reasonable credit can walk into a toyota/lexus dealer and buy one on lease and get it easily. also, the mercedes you bought were the cheapest least powerful ones in their class so if you're gonna complain about mercedes try out the nice one in the class or mabey an s class because the only competition for it is the bmw 7 series so get over it lexus sucks

Some very ill informed comments by I suspect people who will never be able to own a Lexus of any type.
HI have owned 9 Lexus since 91 and being fully aware they are built by Toyota. In fact since 91 I have owned 3 LS400\'s an SC430 2 GS300\'s an RX 350 & 2 IS 250\'s.
During this period I also owned 2 E class Mercs A CL200 a CLK 350.
Each time I ventured away from Lexus I found myself driving a car that in a few months was requiring warranty work. Not once in any Lexus have I ever required warranty work, however on one occasion I did mention that the drivers door trim had an irritating noise when leaned on in some places and without hesitation the response was,\"we\'ll get a new one under warranty for you sir.
My last Merc purchase was the current E class which after deciding to go ahead with the purchase I was informed, the only car in stock had metallic paint $3000 Park assist $1900 and a sunroof $3000 and a wood grain steering wheel thus the car cost increased by almost $10K,very annoying.
The most recent purchases have been 2 GS300\'s and there are NO OPTIONS available. The cars come with every conceivable option.
The German makes are losing buyers like me simply because they will not offer a fully equipped car without the buyer spending from $10K to $25K above the advertised price.
Buying a Lexus is simple choose the model and get the extras as standard, and get a level of service from the dealers that is unrivalled anywhere.including a loan car when yours is in for service

Looks like an Aurion geeeez,,get your eyes tested and your brain scanned,if you have one

I for one will always take the Lexus LS above any other luxury sedan in the market. But unlike most of you German fans, I still respect the German luxury brands because if it wasn't for them, world class Lexus cars would not exist today. Not to mention, if it wasn't for the first LS400, Mercedes and BMW would not have had to step up the build quality of their vehicles.

But to simply ignore the fact that Lexus does build great cars is simply ignorance. The LS460 is one of the best cars ever built and given Lexus' reputation, I'm confident they will only make it better. You may not like the Lexus LS, because we all have different tastes in a luxury car, but you will give Lexus its due respect for creating the LS460.

A review from Car Magazine [October 2008 issue] comparing BMW 7 Series - Audi A8 - Lexus LS460 Luxury Saloons

Lexus LS460
Good - Gadgets
Bad - As soulful as a Tumble Drier
Verdict - "A great Car.... If you HATE Cars"
[That has to be the quote of the year]

hey guys
a lexus is a toyota it's a horrible car. it's built like a toyota. it sucks. it's not a dang limo, or anything close to a mercedes. i'd rather have a 1980 mercedes e 200 thann a 08 lexus LS. my 08 mercedes s600 is so much nicer than any lexus. my fathers maybach 62s is better than any car a japanese car company can make. you can't compare don't even try. The only thing better is a Rolls Royce Phantom. Lexus sucks

Where, Lexusboy? Here, or the world? And if that particular feat was achieved with a bunch of models that were marketed in the homeland and elsewhere as Toyotas Celsiors, Soarers, Land Cruisers, Harriers and Atezzas, it's a shallow gloat.

The so-called sales figures will mean zip to Audi, BMW and Merc devotees.

Lexus LS & Aurion having simliarities?? In what sense?

One is RWD and ther FWD

One has REAL wood trim while the other has plastics with woody pattern. Yes the plastics are nasty in the Aurion but plss.. the ones in the LS are not the same/similar in any way.

I cannot fault the Lexus interior. It looks like a well integrated and cohesive design, unlike the Mercedes S-Class interior, which resembles that of a Toyota Tarago (with specific reference to the centre console). Also, instead of following the backwards trend of an I-Drive like system set by BMW, Lexus has stuck with traditional buttons and a touch screen.

The only German made flagship that can match the LS460 interior is that of the Audi A8. Like the Lexus, it sticks with a somewhat understated, yet elegant design philosophy. The S-Class and the 7 series interior designs have no finesse, with rude angles and a crap user interface ruling supreme.

Bavarian, your quoted comment August 19th 3.31pm differs considerably (L-finesse design, v8 growl, braking) to the comments and opinions of this article.

This is a question i have to ask, which one do you believe ?

In many areas of engineering, Lexus has long had it over the Germans and continue that trend.

Lexus ranked 1st in the 2008 US JD Powers Vehicle Dependability Survey taking honours for the 14th consecative season while receiving the same honour in the 2008 UK JD Powers Dependability Study marking 8 consecative years in Europe.

In 20 short years, no resonable person can deny Lexus has become one of the most respected luxury brands as we know them today and either match or better the Germany marques in most avenues of engineering and for a much less price tag.

BMW and Mercedez Benz have commanded inflated prices for many years all while thier quality and dependability has slipped especially sense they started manufacturing in the US and South Africa.

Some off Bavarains copied statements are ridiculous and obvious written by a German fan who has increasingly become nervous of Lexus in the same manner BMW and Mercedes Benz have. If i recall correctly, i believe MB and BMW announced a co-develoment partnership because of the growing threat from Lexus, if that doesn't suggest anything then what does.

As for peoples comments about the dash design is similar to the Camry and Aurion, what exactly is your point. All i can suggest is i hope you silly people are not making referance that the quality of the Camry is the same as the LS460 or LS600hl because that would be just plain stupid and for the record, BMW interior designs have never done it for me, they are complicated and messy.

Because it has a similar design doesn't mean the function or quality is the same and in this case, not even close.

Lets not forget Lexus has long been noted for it's impeccable build quality and craftsmanship with countless reports suggesting Lexus invest so much time, money and effort into thier vehicles that they are almost daring people to find a fault, if they can.

The fact that Lexus build quality is impeccable and probably even the best in the world suggests little of those who pass silly comments about switch gear or wood grain, to me if proves some people really do have no idea or appreciation of superb workmanship.

About the only area were Lexus marginally trials it's German competitors is handling but even that has been reduced to near nothing in most of thier new models and considering BMW and MB have been in the business for many years, i take my hate off to Lexus for the ground they have covered in 20 short years, image what the future holds.

For those who wish to quote negative statements from other articles, that's a game we all can play and i can quote dozens of negative reports on BMW and Mercedez Benz if i had the time and then follow up with dozens of positive reports on Lexus but i won't waste the effort to prove something we already know.

And if it's just a Toyota then it proves they do make the some best cars in the world without forgeting the LS460 won the 2007 World Car Of The Year

And if it’s just a Toyota then it proves they do make the some best cars in the world without forgeting the LS460 won the 2007 World Car Of The Year

BM, from the ratings you wrote about Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and BMW, it looks like though Mercedes-Benz just nudged BMW out for first place and Lexus last. So...............

1. Mercedes-Benz
2. BMW
3. AND Lexus LAST

What about Audi? Ay?

Wheelnut - I think the use of limo is more of classificaton of the type of drive of this car is, its totally built on comfort and features with less emphasis on performance which if you go ride inside a REAL limo, you would have performance as the last thing in your mind and comfort and features as a no1 priority.
