Ford Model T centenary celebrations

By Alborz Fallah |

With the world’s first mass produced affordable car, the Ford Model T, turning 100 in September, the New York Times has put together a brief video showcasing the car’s rich history.

You can read more about the Model T here.

Very interesting but so glad we have moved on from the crank start – especially when the heaven’s open up!

  • Phill

Happy 100th birthday model T,true automotive legend.Maybe in 100 years the Prius will be looked at like a model T(Benchmark for its time).Sad but true.

  • realcars

    Seen it.Good clip.Gawd I luv the internet!

  • TP

Per Top Gear the model T was hardly a benchmark… it was only accessible to those who were rich (unlike todays cars) and it didnt have anywhere near the same characterisitics of a modern car (no start motor, stupid handbrake design, stupid acceleration etc). Still a marvel but it aint THAT great.

  • Bret

    TP you are an idiot!
Top Gear is a light entertainment program, not a motoring expert show.
Fancy believing ANYTHING that they say is actually factul and not the pre-scripted entertainment that it is.

  • PoisonEagle

The Model T was relatively cheap compared to any other car, why else would they sell 25 million of them? TP do some research before shooting yourself in the foot daily.

  • Sean H

tp, of course they werent ‘great’, they were built 100 years ago.

they must be pretty reliable too running 100 years on…LOL

  • Carl

TP, Again you embarrass yourself……..When Henry Ford invented the production line he made the Model T the most affordable car of it’s time!!!!

Just stick to the Toyota stories coz a man should know his limitations!!!

  • No Name

Hey – what were Toyota doing when the Model T was everywhere…..probably THINKING about making a sewing machine. Come on dude get real.

  • http://porsche DOHCV8

    TP

You are a complete moron, an idiot, you know nothing of cars, and once again you have embarrassed yourself and shown yourself to be a completely biased fool. Mercifully (for you) the world needs idiots…

Some of the key points for you to ponder as you play with then eat your crayons and dribble all over your clothes..

    – Almost 50% market share globally!

    – Despite huge demand and popularity Henry REDUCED the price of his cars.

Take note Toyota Australia which just raised the price of it’s diesel Prado and Landcruiser ute without a corresponding equipment rise, despite the strong Aussie dollar actually making the car cheaper to land here.

The model T was not for the rich but actually brought motoring to the masses, and to compare it to a modern day motor car 100 years later makes you the equivalent of a living and breathing Forest Gump.

  • si1982

I love it how the attention has diverted to TP here!

anyway I think TP that you are an idiot.

Top Gear also says that the Stig “is not human” perhaps u believe that too.

  • si1982

“Some say TP does not have a brain and that he is an Idiot”.

“All we know is that it’s true!”

  • Andrew M

the one motor company that exhibits great history and benchmarks, is that of Henrys

  • Bret

    Si1982,
Paul is stupid, lacks depth of knowledge, is extremely stubborn, totally biased, yet very very inexperienced, however, he has, through thick and thin, total self foot shooting ridicule maintained the same name pretty much throughout.
That alone gives him 100% more integrity than Dingo/Aka/Luke etc etc etc could ever dream off.

  • Wheelnut

TP – How many 100 year old Toyotas are there still going around?

  • PoisonEagle

Then it’s unanimous. TP you know what to do….

  • http://. Naughtyius Maxiumus

LMAO WHAT A TWERP OF MASSIVE PROPORTIONS!

  • http://. Naughtyius Maxiumus

Hooray for non TP comments! Phew

  • TP

I wouldnt regard the Ford Model T as the first mass produced car… because its not a car. A marvel yes. But it function anywhere near like a car as we know it. The Audstin 7 on the other hand, now that was a CAR.

May I also note that Mr Ford wouldnt have made a tidy profit from his Model T…Ford today posts $9 Billion losses. So now they dont just make ordinary “cars” but they cant even sell them.

  • Naughtyius Maximus

    He has a point.

  • Wheelnut

I, in addition to Naughtyius Maximus, believe the abovementoned poster has a point.

    He has a point.

someone commenting on my behalf…….this is not my comment. TOYOTA PULLERS AT WORK!

  • PoisonEagle

TP struggles to acknowledge the Model T as a car. But it has four wheels, a gearbox and a cabin, and REAR WHEEL DRIVE ( Bingo). Also it has plenty of character, I guess in TP’s opinion, only cold clinical whitegoods are qualified as cars.
Speaking of qualified, what qualifies you to take on something so esablished as the Model T? The laughing stock of caradvice hates RWD, because daddy used to sneak up behind him and play ‘wheelbarrows’ .
Probably treats himself to a nice bag of aerosol before bed too. Keep up the good work, champ.

  • Wheelnut

NM – It’s obviously TP. He made another comment using my name [July 12th at 7:34pm] when I wasn’t even online at the time – I was on the phone to Bavarian Missile..

He is doing the usual Toyo-tosser thing of using other names in an attempt to try and back up his misguided narrow-minded ignorant views particularly when they are either losing an arguement or don’t understand what is being said.

At least Dingo was smart enough not to use existing bloggers names and instead made up new ones.. although his “unique” style of writing gave him away

I have reported him to CA so we will see what happens ISP logs will prove where the comments came from.. and when CA find they are from TPs PC they will most likely delete them

  • Wheelnut

Lol reporting to CA…. what a little child ‘your dobbbed on!’

Lets face the facts, Ford got away with the Model T in selling a inferior car and making a profit from it… now with $9 Billion losses its clear their inferior cars cant sell in a market that wants the best.

Did anyone actually watch Top Gears segment on this as well? The design of the model T was illogical.

  • christo

bloody hell people has anyone ever heard the saying IGNORE SOMETHING AND ITS GOES AWAY!

  • Wheelnut

    I hate myself

  • Andrew M

it sounds like someone has put an INXS album on repeat.

all thats coming from the toyo guys lately is bitter tears

gee dont it suck to be them……..

  • TP

Dont say that Wheelnut, your special!!!

  • TP’s Mum

    TP,
i hope you arent doing naughty things on that website towards those nice people again are you???

dont make me come down there with the fly swatter……..

  • TP’s Dad

    TP,
    sorry son,
    its all my fault.
i falsely told you that toyotas were the best, strongest, fastest, most reliable etc etc etc.

if only you didnt get given the hand me down family camry, then maybe you wouldnt have thought them to be so great.

    i mean,
perhaps we should have let you make your first vehicle choice, then perhaps you wouldnt be so blinded as to what goes on in this world.

  • Glen

The Model T isnt a car just like the Wright Brother’s plane isn’t a plane because you dont fly it with a joystick or hand throttle but by shifting your body weight. What a twit

  • http://porsche Millatime

    TP is Forest Gump..

  • Tomas79

Bloody Ford Fairies!! It’s you guys that have been brainwashed into Tooting for Ford!!

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee!!

  • http://porsche Millatime

Tomas79 TP you guys are psychopathic!!

Doesnt matter what you think of Ford today, it just doesnt matter. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it just doesn’t change the fact the Model T is an important and historic motor car.

It’s a piece of automotive history!

So just move on quietly and take your medication.

To deny history is just a little bit psycho dont you think..?

  • Wheelnut

Shows you how much Toyo-philes believe what they say when they have to constantly change their names in an attempt to try and back up their narrow-minded ignorant statements.. Whereas us Ford and Holden fans have stayed true are prepared to stand behind what we have said and have kept the same name

Not only that but unlike Toyo-philes we are willing to accept other peoples opinions when they are expressed in a civilised manner – that is without insults personal attacks etc.

  • Wheelnut

To show you how Dumb TP is he chose my name to try and make it appear that all of a sudden I have changed from a Holden fan which nearly everyone on here knows that I am… into a 100% Toyota fan

Don’t Forget on a number of occassions the Toyota Extremists have accused me of hating Toyotas.. to the point where their replies to my statements could almost make up a short story

TP – If I didn’t agree with your views or support your arguements in the past what the hell makes you think that I would start to now [virtually overnight].

  • Phill

I think i know the reason why these toyota fans attack and insult people. They have no soul, you have to trade it in when you by a toyota.

  • http://. Naughtyius Maxiumus

TP is a deadset wally simpleton Toyota geek!

  • TP

The most historic car ever built was the 2007 Toyota Aurion… most powerful engine in the large car segment

  • http://. Naughtyius Maxiumus

For someone who claims to be educated and informed – why did TP’s last comment say……was the 2007 Toyota Aurion when its still released! Was is past tense ya wally!

  • Andrew M

    NM,
    i know why……
    Pick me……..

    ANSWER…..
    because he is a w*nker

  • Wheelnut

Inorder for something to be considered as historic it has to signify a dramatic turning point which significantly changed the way something was done from that point on
The Model T is a historic car because Henry introduced a the process of mass production which helped lower the price of the car and thereby making it more affordable

The Aurion isn’t as in terms of engineering design performance etc its the virtually the same as every other car on the road with a computer controlled internal combustion engine not to mention looks the same as every other bland and boring FWD Toyota sedan which came before it.. there’s no substantial changes that would make it an iconic or distinguishable..

The VE is more historic as its the first Commodore that is 100% designed in Australia from scratch.

If this statement doesn’t prove to you TP that I still don’t agree with you in relation to Toyotas and their place in history etc nothing will

  • http://porsche Millatime

TP is Forest Gump’s retarded brother, everyone knows the Toyota Corona is the best car ever made by Toy-clone-a, the best they’ll ever do…

  • TP

The Aurion was the most historic. It changed the game for big Aussie 6′s

  • http://porsche Millatime

Toy-clone-a’s “historic” big Japanese 6 that changed it’s name from Camry is now outsold at least 2 to 1 by Australia’s own Falcon.

  • Andrew M

the aurion sure did change things.

it shut those up that thought the falcon drank lots of fuel once they saw the aurion…….

  • Watto_Cobra

I’ve been away for a bit, but already I’ve seen TOYOTA PAUL (TP) busted twice using Wheelnuts name for his own Toyota agenda.

  • Watto_Cobra

Aurion most powerful by 2 KW, with a 50-odd Nm torque deficit. And worse economy in real world conditions.

  • Bob

    FORD RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BTW
Of course the Model T is not a car as we know it today it is 100 years old plus it has four wheels and an engine! I don’t care what you car morons think ask anyone it fits the car requirements!!!
