HSV ClubSport R8 SV-R designed to boost road safety
Holden Special Vehicles has developed four bright yellow high-performance HSV ClubSport R8 sedans to help boost the visible presence of Queensland Police this holiday season and make the roads safer.
The HSV engineering team collaborated with the Queensland Police Fleet Management Branch on the ClubSport R8 ‘SV-R’ (Special Vehicle Response) cars, which will be used predominantly as highway patrol vehicles over the Christmas period and beyond.
The ClubSport R8 SV-R cars feature unique engine and suspension tunes. The V8’s 325kW output (up 8kW on the standard R8) matches the production version of the HSV GTS, while the ‘SV Enhanced’ performance suspension package has been designed to meet the vehicles’ load-carrying requirements.
The four cars are finished in vivid yellow paintwork and adorned with Queensland Police’s ‘Fatal 4’ message: don’t drink and drive, don’t speed, don’t drive when fatigued, and always wear a seatbelt.
HSV general manager sales Darren Bowler said the local sports car manufacturer hoped the vehicles would stand out on the roads and act as a reminder that safety should always be a priority.
“Our engineers worked closely with the Queensland Police Fleet Management Branch to get a clear appreciation of their critical safety and operational requirements,” Bowler said. “After an extensive period of evaluating their needs, and testing by the Queensland Police, the SV-R is the best possible outcome.”
