Supercar crash destroys 8 Ferraris in Japan

This is not the way you want a Sunday drive to end. Yesterday morning 14 cars were involved in a highway pile-up, resulting in the destruction of eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini, three Mercedes-Benz vehicles… and a Toyota Prius.

The epic accident occurred yesterday at around 10:15am on the Chugoku Expressway in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Up to 10 people were reportedly taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Two Ferrari 355s, two Ferrari 360s, two Ferrari 430s (one of which was a rare Scuderia variant), and a Ferrari 512 were totalled in what has been described as one of the most expensive pileups in history.

Sitting rather innocently in the middle of it all was a Toyota Prius, which, by the looks of it, suffered the least damage of all the cars involved. A Nissan GT-R and Lamborghini Diablo were less fortunate.

The official cause of the accident is yet to be determined, however it’s understood a Ferrari clipped the median strip while travelling at around 140km/h. This set off a chain reaction of crashes, spanning some 400 metres down the highway.

The total price of the cars involved is beyond $3 million.

i wonder how many ferrari outlets there are in japan?.someones rubbing their hands together…

  • Lazybones

Never before and never again will we see the Toyota Prius in this line up :)

  • Martin V.

That poor Prius. Forget the Ferrari’s, won’t somebody think of the Prius!?

    HAHA.

    • Robbo

Bets are on that the Prius was to blame, crawling in the wrong spot and the flying supercars came to grief attempting to dodge it.

      Or…

The floor mat fault caused the Prius to be fanging, and the supercars thought it was game-on!!!

    • Alexander

      RIP Prius :(

  • Fred-

    LOL…

They must have been up each others A*ses !!

Or… All of them were suffering from
    ” Radiation Poisoning “.

  • Rit

It’s the prius fault, he’s driving too slow, the ferrari tried to overtake him and clip the median.

  • Jimmy

Or the dingbat ferraris were dragging? I’ve never seen so many ferraris together in my life. Something is up here???

In Japan the there are few speed & camera trap and most of the people knows where they are so is is likely they were racing between these trap zone. It is likely these super cars were members of a auto club on a outing. Something happened to the front two cars after left turning curve that is not visible and after the front two cars had problem and crashed
all the rest of the drivers following at high speed just piled into the front disabled cars. On blind left curve at japanese freeways at 140km/h one traveling or racing on blind curve one has very little time to react and stop
especially on wet road reported by other news service in Japan. Most of the Japanese driver slow down to speed limit where the speed traps are
and speed up to autoban speed where there is no speed trap. One can’t do this in urban area of-course but in the country where there is less traffic
they really go fast. I thought the ferrari and Lambohgihni would be going faster then 140km/h.

There are highway police but too few and they useally catch speeder by radar trap or on severe case they will stop them at toll station at off-ramp. Not chasing after the speeder like highway patrol here in U.S. I traveled
on the same section of this highway few time when I was in Japan.

Ferrari driver was shocked and crashed…

  • Mariusz

That red Testarossa turned inside out!

  • Alex

    … And a Prius

    Hahaha

  • Buddy

I heard the Prius had an engine conversion (RB30 borrewed from a VL Turbo)and was actually over taking the italians.

  • save it for the track

Just about everywhere else is reporting that one of the Ferrari’s was overtaking at high speed on a bend in the wet.
    .
Speed seems to be a factor here. SSssssshhhhh……
    .
Is the speed-limit 140? If not, I’d say that speed was one of the factors. Wet road, driver….

Asians Cant Drive for S**T! LMAO

    • Sergayo

Have you mastered touch parallel parking on your Fiat Uno yet?

    • SpoonSV

That’s abit stereotypical and borderline racist don’t you think Sergio??

With a name like ‘Sergio’ does that mean I picture you driving around western Sydney in a HSV that sits too low at the back, rolling on way oversized blingy chrome wheels, playing gay as doof doof music too loud, you wearing gold chains in tracksuit pants, yelling out ‘fully sick’ and walking around thinking you’re God’s gift to women??

Pile ups like this happen in Europe far more often then they do in Japan fella.

      Grow up

    • Bottville

and where did it say the nationality of the drivers, anyway?

    • Bottville

they could have been all named Sergio

  • Bazza
