Nissan strengthens Nismo connection

By Alborz Fallah |

Nissan’s performance brand, Nismo, is set to become a mainstream operation with Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn announcing the performance company’s relocation and deeper association set to begin next year. Under the new arrangement, Nismo could become to Nissan what AMG is to Mercedes-Benz.

The first model to showcase the new and reinvented Nismo brand is the Juke Nismo concept, which Ghosn believes is a sign that Nismo will move beyond tinkering with just Nissan GTRs and 370Zs and in to Nissan’s mainstream product range.

The association is the biggest challenge for the once niche tuning house as Nismo will be put solely in charge of driving “the creation of performance vehicle and racing excitement” within the Nissan umbrella.

The performance company will move its operational headquarters closer to Nissan’s R&D operations to be the “centre of excellence for racing and performance vehicle development”.

Fans will be happy to know the near 30-year history of Nismo cars is set to become stronger. It also gives more hope to the revival of cars such as the Nisan 200SX (Silvia) which has been hinted at with the all-electric Nissan ESFLOW concept.

I would like to see Mugen do this with Honda, to get some decent stuff coming out of Honda in larger numbers

Anything to improve the current range of pathetically boring nothing cars. What happened to Nissan? they used to have great cars, I used to buy them…but not anymore. I moved to Mazda.

You used to buy them because you were young, hip, and cool.. Now you’re old and boring so you buy Mazda’s.

Well same way as toyota honda went. To more profitable cars for the masses.

Only problem with mugen is that theres other competing honda specific tuning houses e.g spoon hondata. And doing so means anti-competition

RenaultSport and Nismo should coordinate to operate in all forms of motorsport quite well! With Renault’s successful history in F1 and now recently, Infinity’s involvement in RedBull as well, the two company’s international presence is looking very strong.
BTW, it would be great to see a Juke take on the mini in the WRC – this baby looks to spawn a whole generation of hot cars!
