If you enlarge the picture you'll notice that 1: its metallic paint and 2: that "discolouration" is because the angle of panel changes and then changes back 1cm later. In person, I can say that the line you referring to actually adds well to the lines of the car, just not in a photograph.

Thought I'd add my 2 Bobs worth here in favour of the 2008 SSV Ute I have just acquired. After driving round in a Rodeo Crew cab ute for 5 years and the crap fuel Economy off that, I have to say I'm rapt with the SSV as getting a better Fuel Economy than the Rodeo.
Mine is the 6 speed Auto and Super responsive , a drive up to Smiths Lake near Forster and Back last Saturday after plugging in THE PANTHER , I travelled there and back cruzin' between 110 -125 kph with a couple of spurts there too but wary of the Speed Cameras etc too, and arrived back in Sydney with Fuel just under a quarter tank. With the last of it run out around the City, I ended up doing 570 Kms before it said Low Fuel . I had an Average 10.8 Ltrs /100 kms, so figure I at least saved a litre per 100kms with THE PANTHER plugged in.
Love that UTE,

SINCE this pic was taken: http://preview.tinyurl.com/yaunsuw - I had the remote-locking hard deck (aka boot lid) added. It has a nifty LED light too. This is after the Holden ByDesign one allegedly didn't pass muster. This is my second SS Ute and first SSV, because it's a new model. No-one could tell me what the V meant. Holden, no-one. So I now deduce, after nearly two years of ownership, that V being the roman numeral for 5 denotes the price point of another $5K over baseline SS.

Missing is the rear 'parcel' shelf and added was cubby-bins under the floor.

The brushed aluminum gone from the VY an ad added extra on top of the top range for the SSV.

No lower door sill guards just above the rocker panel.

Why have the embroidery of the floor mats right in the wear position!

The other changes over the VY are substantial, so no point repeating them here.

Major points to Holden (apparently) listened to my feedback. Better speakers over the old 8 Watts or something equally ridiculous. To 100+
This is the first Holden I've owned without recall issues or warranty/build issues of any kind. Worth the four month delay in delivery 2007/08.

The cabin with its dark roof and 'Spiderman' inspired dash, mimicking somewhat cheekily the mods I'd done to the old VY. I added the hard-deck, but didn't need the wing I purchased for the old one to keep the arse (an ass is a donkey) firmly planted on the tarmac.

The oil/battery gauges see, a bit overstated, unless it's one of those multi purpose ones, which somehow is an accessory I haven't yet purchased.

Thankfully the tyres have come down in price from over $700 in the course of the drive to $380. Fuel economy around 11.8 in my experience. Speedo is calibrated to scare you at high speeds making you think you are hooning, when you maybe in fact not.

A real head-turner, a neat package. If Holden went the turbo diesel route a whole new market would open up for this baby.

shak, the extra weight comes from the bracing and stiffening of the chasis from the doors back,as you are aware the roof and rear structure does all that on a sedan.

One question. Why does a ute that doesnt have any rear seats, or the rear part of the roof, or the rear doors for that matter weigh about the same as the sedan equivalent. Shouldnt it weigh about 200kg's less without all that exrta metal around the rump?
