With respect, the last thing the enthusiast motoring world needs is more German conservatism.

We need light weight (add lightness), dynamics, attitude and character.

Whilst the Germans are “useful” in driving the perfection and quality forwards in the market, vive le difference.

The French need to look at their German counterparts and develop more subtle looking sports-orientated models. A’la Golf GTi, Audi A3. What’s with the random decals all the time?

Having said that, I do like it. I drove a Clio Sport 6spd Sequential on a track at Bedford Autodrome in England. It actually lapped faster than the Formula Palmer Audi. More fun, less scary and faster.

Even though this is a race special and not suited for everyone, I commend Renault for not taking the “more power” to go faster approach. In an age where fuel is becoming more expensive, big engine heavy cars are not making much sense. I wish more automotive manufactures put more emphasis on reducing weight rather than increasing power. Makes for a much sportier and livelier drive!

I wonder if the new Focus RS will break the 8 minute barrier for a FWD production car around the ring and take the record.

I’m biased, since I own an R26, but Wow! I wouldn’t give up the creature comforts for the extra .2 of a second though. Would be nice for the track if you couldn’t afford a Megane Trophy. :-)
